Does Ricky Joe's commitment mean we won't go after any more quarterbacks this year?

At the beginning of the 2003 season - barring a transfer or a decision by Richard Bartel to abandon college for his pro baseball career - the Ponies will have six scholarship QBs: Luker, Bartel, Wallis, Gilray, Hodges and Meeks (assuming he maintains his commitment and signs with SMU in February.) Every coach will tell you that competition breeds better performance, but no coach is going to spend a 7th scholarship on a quarterback, unless the next Michael Vick comes along. I'd be very surprised if they recruit any more QBs until next year at the earliest.

Your argument is correct, as far [deleted] it goes, there is no reason to keep 7 quarterbacks. However, not everyone recruited as a QB stays at that position. I've seen high school QBs wind up as wide recievers, tight ends, safeties, outside linebackers, etc. Last year Tate Wallis spent the season as scout team tight end. Some of the players we have now might be moved elsewhere, or we might sign a QB just because he is a tremendous athlete, with the plan to move him to a different spot after he arrives.
