Defensive tackles

There is an obvious need for defensive tackles, especially with Warrie Birdwell and Lute Croy graduating this year. Here are some of the top DTs in the state.

Reggie Ellis, 6-2, 280, 5.0, Carrollton R.L. Turner: Kind of like UT-ex Casey Hampton - a little shorter than you'd like, but extremely strong and hard to move.

Steve Coleman, 6-5, 275, 4.9, Dallas Skyline: Prototype DT. There's a reason he's getting recruited by teams all over the country. This kid has "star" written all over him.

Desmond Jones, 6-2, 260, 4.8, Dallas Carter: Small DT with non-stop motor.

Quincy Whitaker, 6-2, 280, 5.1, Tyler John Tyler: Very productive DT from winning program. Very quick into OL gaps.

Jesus Drieukwu, 6-6, 240, 4.9, Bellaire: Same HS as Ashton Nixon. Too light, at the moment, but very long frame will allow for lots of extra weight and muscle. Could really blossom after a couple years in a college weight/strength program.

Brad Gintman, 6-6, 290, 5.1, Houston Memorial: Stud. Could start from Day One at a lot of Div. I schools.

Carl White, 6-4, 270, 5.0, Gonzales: Actually plays DE in high school, which is a reflection of his superior running ability. Plays faster than his 40 time. Very quick, and has long arms, helping him knock down numerous passes. Could play DT or DE in college. Prize recruit.

Xavier Lawson-Kennedy, 6-3, 270, 4.9, Duncanville: Scrappy player who goes to the end of the whistle on every play. Not being heavily recruited - yet.

Tate Pittman, 6-3, 260, 4.8, Odessa Permian: Very quick DT from one of the state's top HS programs. Probably can add 20-30 pounds without really hurting quickness. Studies the game hard, and understands offensive tendencies well.

Nick Davidson, 6-3, 270, 5.0, Austin S.F. Austin: Brawler who excels at collapsing the pocket. Strength reminds some of former Nebraska DT Jason Peter.

Cedric Cofer, 6-3, 280, 5.0, DeSoto: Top-tier player who's being heavily recruited by many big programs. Viewed as a potential All-America candidate.

Joseph Bryant, 6-4, 285, 5.0, Jasper: He and Jasper OL Jorrie Adams are two of the premier recruits in the state. If Coach Bennett can use his east Texas connections to get these two, the 2003 class can be called a great success.

Kendall Moulton, 6-2, 270, 4.9, Arlington Lamar: Nasty player. Rushes the passer well, and is brutal on ball-carriers.

Maurice Cummings, 6-4, 260, 4.8, Rosebud-Lott: A bit raw, but has shown flashes of absolute dominance.

Marque Fountain, 6-3, 260, 4.9, Fort Bend Hightower: Extremely quick for an interior lineman. Can make plays all the way to the sidelines. Quick enough to play DE. Very instinctive.

Travis Ferguson, 6-1, 270, 4.9, Dallas Skyline: He and Steven Coleman are one of the better DT pairs in the state. Needs to add weight to go with quickness and strength.
