ANOTHER quarterback headed to SMU?

Postby Corso » Wed May 22, 2002 3:59 pm

Word is this kid likes SMU (and Texas A&M) a lot. We'll see if Coach Bennett wants to recruit another QB.

Landon Fullerton (6-3.5, 185, 4.8)
Stony Point HS

Classic dropback passer with a rifle for an arm.... Has been the starting QB for Stony Point since the school started varsity football in 2000.... Lefty holds all school passing records.... Also a quality pitcher for the SPHS baseball team.

Has heard from a lot of schools, including SMU, Oklahoma State, A&M and Iowa State.

Somehow I don't see the coaches adding another QB this year.
But if he's that good an athlete, maybe we sign him and find another position for one or more of these guys.
Stranger things have happened.

I agree it doesn't look like we need more QBs. But there's a kid out here who's an absolute star. Arlington Sam Houston QB Devin Williams (6-4, 185, 4.5) looks like Casey Printers, except he's faster and has a better arm. He runs a lot for his team, and what makes him special is his acceleration. He looks like he's going top-speed in two steps. He's big, but he has the shake-and-bake to make a lot of defenders miss.

Wildhorse is right. Devin Williams is an amazing athlete. He throws well, and when he runs with the ball, he looks a little like Jonas Rutledge, meaning he has that instinctive ability to make defenders miss tackles. A lot of guys have looked like they have him wrapped up or trapped on a sideline, only to watch him juke them and sail by for a big gain. If the QB spot is too crowded, he might make an amazing WR. Sort of like Robert Timmons, the Flower Mound Marcus WR who signed this year with Texas but started his high school career as a QB at Dallas Roosevelt.
