Signing Day, 2003The big day is Feb. 5.
Does anyone know how many scholarships we have available to give this year?
Re: Signing Day, 2003I've heard 24. But nothing official.
Re: Signing Day, 2003I count 23 for FEB 03 and only 9 for 04 unless there are more that leave the team.

Re: Signing Day, 2003Only 9 for next year? How do you figure that?
Surely we'll be able to take more than that next year. Some folks will leave the team, if need be. "What kind of weirdo school are they running over there in Fort Worth?"

Re: Signing Day, 2003Unless there are some players that leave, SMU will only have room to sign nine players in 04 if they sign the maximum this year. Next year's SRs( this year's Jrs) include:
Reindl, Harris, Hrncir,Kincaide, Bischoff, James, Rutledge, Moodley, and Price.
Re: Signing Day, 2003Don't forget Luker was in that class, so there's an extra scholarship. But we sure need to clear up more space for fresh Bennett-recruited talent.
Re: Signing Day, 2003Luker's scholarship was counted as part of the 23 available in FEB 03. The recruiting class of 04 will only have the nine available from the JR class previously named unless we don't sign 23 in the next class or unless more players leave the program.

Re: Signing Day, 2003Recruiting JUCOs allows programs to balance the classes as well as positions. If SMU had recruited 5 JUCOS, of which 3 were OL, last year there would be 14 JRS on the roster and there would be some depth in the OL. As it stands now, if SMU recruits the the allowable next recruiting season, they can only award nine new scholarships the year after.
Re: Signing Day, 2003If SMU recruits some JUCO's next year, they should be one QB, 2OL, one DT, and one DE.
