SMU is currently #44 on rivals 2016 recruiting ranks

I know it's no where near February, but with 10 people committed, we've passed schools like West Virginia (9 commits ), Wake forest (9 commits) and are currently in second place for the AAC. Houston has a pretty commanding lead right now, but so far so good for a team that went 1-11 last year.

As other teams fill in their commit list with more numbers, we will inevitably drop (we aren't going to finish ahead of OU or Wisconsin); however, we have a very good chance of having a Top 5 G5 class.

(Note - a Top 5 G5 class will probably be better than many lower level P5 recruiting classes. Top 5 P5 classes are what eventually allowed Louiseville and TCU to move up to the ACC and B12.

That is certainly not out of the question. If (9xP5 Conferences) finish near the top of the rankings, the Top 5 schools in the G5 should end up somewhere between 46-70. There should definitely be some P5 schools ranked below us when it all shakes out.

Bottom line, we should end up in spitting distance of UCF, UH, BYU, and Cinci (and ahead of Boise St.) coming off a miserable (1-11) season. #miracle.

To finish in top 3 G-5 we will need 1) at least one 4 star and 2) some of our existing 2 stars to be upgraded - which could definitely happen.

Our average ranking needs to move up a tad. I think it will happen for sure - our guys are pretty wise about this. They said they will take a break after we hit about half the class - since there are a bunch of 3 stars who will be trying to break into the P-5 top 20 - and when there isn't room might slide to us.

Then you have some of our commits who are dragging teammates with them - which is fantastic. That's how you build a program.

That we are currently #45 on Rivals is more a function of the number of commits vs. the quality of the recruits.

If you project out based on average stars per commit, it looks like we will end ranked in the 60's.

Right now, only Memphis in the AAC has a lower avg star rating than us. Now mind you, as you fill out the class with more commits, I am assuming the overall quality of the recruits (based on avg star system) will decline.

Having said that, I'm very pleased with this class & this coaching staff.

You know I just realized why we might be seeing so much TEMPO right now. SMU may not have wanted to accept a commitment until the final day of these kids Junior Year because starting with this Class of 2016 they need 10 out of 16 core courses before the start of their Senior year. Maybe SMU was waiting to see if a recruit completed at least 10 core courses by end of Junior year before accepting some commitments so SMU wouldn't be stuck with a player who was ineligible to play in 2016 due to mandatory freshman redshirt or failure to qualify. UT also has such a small commitment list it seems fishy. Could be. Wouldn't really be concerned about recruits whose transcripts are solid

That and I think we have become a "thing" all of a sudden. You got a guy like Moore that everyone seems to know and respect really working the social media - and they seem to be responding. Not where we need to be on quality quite yet, but miles ahead past few years. These guys seem to sense this thing is going to take off - and this class will see a ton of playing time more than likely.

USF has won the AAC recruiting title the last two years in a row. Since they only have 3 commits (2 of the 3 are top 100 recruits and all 3 have P5 offers) at this point I would not rule them out yet in beating UH. But they have a slime chance in doing it and slim is about to leave town.
