Women’s Tennis Adds Two Signees To 2016 Class
Mustangs To Add Liza Buss and Charline Anselmo For 2016-17 Season

DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU women’s tennis team signed two athletes to its class of 2016 to give them a total of three women joining the roster for the 2016-17 season. Charline Anselmo and Liza Buss will join the Mustangs roster, Anselmo will come from Vitrolles, France, and Buss will transfer from Iowa State University by way of Togliatti, Russia.

Buss competed for the Cyclones as a freshman in 2015-16 going 13-5 in singles during duals play, 12-4 from the No. 2 singles position with a 1-1 record at the top singles spot and in doubles, Buss played No. 1 to a record of 14-6.

“Liza had a tremendous freshman year at Iowa State. She brings experience having played very successfully at the top of the lineup in doubles and in singles,” SMU head coach Kati Gyulai said. “She is eager to continue improving and believes her best tennis is ahead of her. We anticipate her to have an immediate impact in our lineup.”

In tournaments played last fall 2015 Buss compiled an 8-2 singles record, reaching the finals of the Juan Varon College Invitational and she also eight doubles matches in the fall reaching the semi-finals of The Gopher Invitational.

Anselmo is a top-15 player in her age group, is rated -2/6 in France and will look to bring athleticism and the ability to play many styles to the SMU women’s tennis team.

“Charline adds superb athleticism to our team and her ability to move is above most in women’s college tennis,” Gyulai said. “Her game has every tool, is adaptable to different styles and she is motivated to improve her game, which is the right fit for our culture. We anticipate immediate contribution from her.”

Anselmo and Buss will join Sarai Delfina Monarrez Yesaki, who signed with the Mustangs last fall, as newcomers to the SMU women’s tennis team that loses three seniors.
