I recognize that typically you want to Redshirt as many Freshmen as possible, but just curious to know who you think could start next season? My guess is QB, LB, maybe OL or DL?

We have a pretty good group of redshirts this year. Hopefully we will not need many frosh next year.

I know I will jinx this, but every time I go to the Recruiting Page, I always first look at the top post, '2017 Commitment List' and see the last post from smusic00 dated August 26th and know nothing material has changed.

Maybe it might be better to ask two questions....

1) What Redshirt Freshmen could start next year?
2) What True Freshmen could start next year?

yeah we will be a much more mature team next year-that's why this class will be small. I'm not sure any freshman will need to start next year-that's good sign. Alan Ali has the talent but we got a strong redshirting Offensive Line class that hopefully is ready to play. The JUCO QB Gillens will have a shot this spring. Charlie Brewer will get a head start this spring-he could pull a Buechelle and beat out all the upperclassmen but hopefully he's able to redshirt

As for the redshirts-there are a bunch that could start next year-I'm talking 10-12 who could start if they play great in the spring. I personally believe we are redshirting many of the top players in the 2016 Class. The 2016 Class is very deep-very bullish on the 2016 Class

4 Offensive Line
Noah Spears
McLaughlin
Corey Rau
Carmouche (hopefully medical redshirt)
Brandon Benson
Alphonso Thomas

plus guys like Shelmire and Patrick Jones will at least have a chance

QB - unless you are counting Gillens & Peavy, there is a ZERO chance a recruit starts at QB in the Fall of 2017

Hicks is getting better almost every week. Davis may be back. Peavy & Gillens were elite QB recruits. They will fight for the job.

With all these quality QBs in the mix next year you can't help wondering how this will all play out. Really something new to all of us -deep talented QB depth.

I want to echo a previous post on how much I appreciate the post of Stallion. One of the sane people on this board. I do not know who does the stats on SMU athletics but they miss on some of the participation. Notably Bates, Touhy and Paden. Question: Did Ayeni ever see any action or is he not eligible?

I would expect Kadarius Smith, Todora, and maybe even Webb to push for starting jobs at some point next year along the OL. Only spot I see on the OL truly being locked down is Evan Brown at center

How does our secondary shape up next year. We lose Richardson and Millines. Are we ok? I have not watched any back ups that closely.

According to the 2 deep for the USF game, the backups for Richardson and Millines are Freshmen Onu and Johnson.

Considering how well Richardson and Millines have played this season, there will probably be "some" drop-off. Millines might be SMU's Defensive Player of the Year and Richardson has a lot of picks.

Next year, our starters should be CB: Wyatt, Sutton, Safety: a combination of Onu, Clemons, and Johnson. With another year's experience, the secondary should be fine. Furthermore, SMU will have young, talented players competing with them for PT.

I think Wyatt (at CB) and Onu (at safety) will star in the secondary. Also, don't sleep on Kevin Johnson (at CB). His speed is needed and with a bit more experience, he could star.

Others are Sutton (CB), maybe even somebody like Collin Rock? at the other safety spot. Good news is that we have some depth there building, which we've always lacked on defense post DP. We've had stars here and there at different positions but I'd like to see us go 2 deep at DL and secondary with high quality (I think the DL will be there next year, secondary is getting there)

What happened to Jenlys (sp). I assume he is no longer with us.
