Without getting into specifics, how is football recruiting looking? I currently don't have time or money to scout it so a brief summary without names would be greatly appreciated.

All 3 stars-2 of them considered in the Top 100 range in Texas. We had a great target Junior Day with a long list of great looking prospects. Not recruiting off 1 or 2 wins this year. Its going to be another small class so need to maximize our scholarships. Both Michael Woods and Tre Allison had made early Texas Top 100 Lists. Michael Woods is red-hot right now and already has about 12 offers. Here are a couple of free looks:

Heard that Will Brown (QB commit) is going to absolutely blow up his senior year if he stays healthy. He plays on an absolutely awful team and was hurt early in his junior year last year but he is oozing talent. Hope we can keep him.
Back off Warchild seriously.

Stallion, why must we have another small class? I understand the "starting number" 12-14, but we will have a "plus ten" if we take no more this year. This is just a estimate, but we always loose 5-8 kids annually, grades, off campus behavior, on field performance, lack of playing time projected, etc. We had seven this year and I believe we only used one or two of these places, leaving 5? to carry over, plus next years expected departures, say another 5?

SMU is following the TCU Model. I've explained it many times but in summary SMU wants to play with 50 4th/5th Year Senior/Junior multi-year letterman in 2018-2019 rather than 30-35 that we have had when you keep churning the roster. When you churn the roster you get less experienced, younger roster

Maybe I wasn't clear. I was speaking of numbers of permitted recruits. The number of those that left at year end happened, seven less I believe two we ended using, so we are really debating whether or not 5-7 will depart next year aside from normal graduation. Given this year's departures (7 less 2) and a typical year next fall (5-8) we should have at least 10 additional slots available to increase our number of recruits.

Kids leave the program on their own or how they perform in the classroom or those that simply are not in Chad's plans for the future. TCU's model is not what I am questioning, what I am debating is the simple numbers game--the number of potential recruits we can have in the 2018 class when considering last year's attrition and a reasonable estimate of normal number of expected departures at the end of this fall, as happens every year and using those places to increase the size of the 2018 class by maybe ten.

Our roster for next year is:
Srs - 13(12 if no Davis), including 5 RS, (Gentry, Lawler, Horton, Lancaster and Davis)
4 2014 recruits (Walker,Brown,Hyder,Rhone)
1 Juco (Williams)
1 walk-on (Cox)
1 Jr transfer (Printz)
1 SR transfer (Epps)

Jrs - 17 7 RS (Sutton,Natour,K Mitchell,Severt Wyatt,Jeanlys,Pursley
6 2015 recruits (Chad's 1st class)Thomas,Castille,Kaufman
West,McNew,Williams(k)
2 Jucos (Gillins,Robledo)
2 Jr. transfers (Quinn,Peavey)

Soph - 24 14 RS (look them up)
9 2016 recruits (Becker,Freeman,Gary,Badejo,Ward,Davis
E Sutton,Onu, Sackville)
1 So. transfer) Neals

FR - 31 15 RS
16 2017 recruits
You may be making a very common error in getting to 85. If you keep ALL your recruits while you redshirt, you can only take 17/yr, because in any given year you are working with 5, not 4 classes. SMU signed 23,23,25 and 25 from 13 to 16. If we had not had such great attrition we would have had a class of -11 last year. As it was we actually took 19 (16+3tr). At this point, if everyone comes back who can come back, we have room for 14. The reason we are so squeezed is we have 22returness from the 15 class and all 25 from the 16 class. That is how you build better football teams, to which Stallion referred.

We've added about 65 signees in Morris first 3 classes plus probably about 5 more that signed on non-traditional dates -so estimated 70 kids-subtract a few that will have already graduated and a very small number of kids that have left and you can see we can congregate an unusually large number of Seniors/Juniors eligibility wise or at least 3rd year Sophomores by 2018-19. That's the idea-to build a mature, experienced team-that's almost always a great idea.

Thanks for the information. I started at 13-14, but shouldn't have added all of this past semester's attrition (we ended up adding 19 including transfers, which was larger than we expected).
I wonder with such large numbers making up our upcoming senior and junior classes, lack of playing time, etc. will change next December's expected attrition levels?

good to see Michael Woods take a prominent role on the twitter in promoting Stanggang18. Never really had that guy last year it seems
