Burns picked SMU over offers from Arkansas, Arizona, Baylor, Iowa State, Missouri, Nebraska, Texas Tech and several others.

At 6-foot-3, 180 pounds, Burns is ranked as the No. 38 athlete in the country and No. 76 overall prospect in the state, per 247Sports Composite.

Keontae, welcome to the hilltop, can't wait to see you in action at Ford.

This staff is unbelievable. Beating out P5 programs for quality recruits.

Have we ever beaten out Alabama for a recruit?

I would guess that Bama offer was "conditional" and appears he was offered as an "athlete" so I would imagine that it would depend on a lot of dominoes falling just right (or wrong) for them to want him in the end. Bama makes a ton of offers vs how many they will ultimately take, but all I know is that if he drew their attention, odds are he will be a terrific prospect in next year's class.

Awesome get. I thought I heard Sonny mention somewhere that we are pretty much done with this class?

He said something about how some of the transfers actually register against next year's number, and at this point we are just trying to hold onto the recruits we already have...

We've had others. Didn't Marcus Mosley, not the recent SMU commit with the same name but the five star linebacker signee from the '98 class, have an Alabama offer? Cavan had a couple of outstanding classes back in the day.

If Dykes puts together about 3 or 4 more of these Taggert like classes and SMU will be tough to beat.

No wonder is getting hammered on the field right now - from what I can tell we've beaten them for half a dozen to a dozen recruits in the past two years.

Welcome Keontae!
