Looks like the Pony hoopsters just picked up a commit from a 6-6, 195-pound McKinney Small Forward Alex Anamekwe.

Three-star SMU signee Alex Anamekwe didn’t play for McKinney in the first matchup with Guyer, but he had 11 points, seven rebounds and six blocks Friday.

He’s a very nice player, and a great signing. It would be fantastic if he could get his MHS teammate Jacoby Walter to join him next year.

Alex had 14 points and hit the game winner last night against Richardson, the #2 team in the country.

Senior Alex Anamekwe added three blocks on multiple highlight-reel rejections to go along with six points.

Didn't realize Anamekwe's play came against Richardson. Someone out there ranks RHS as the No. 1 team in the country — either way, it's a terrific team and Anamekwe and his team came up big in a huge game.

Senior Alex Anamekwe was the catalyst, scoring 10 of his game-high 20 points in the third quarter.

Would really be great if our guys can finish strong this season and have some success in the NCAA Tourney and then return most, if not all of our seniors who still have eligibility and build on that success next season...then maybe Jakobe gets interested in staying home and playing with Alex and Zhuric. I remember Dave Bliss' recruiting strategy being to get one or two of the top DFW area players to stay home and play in Moody. Turned out to be a good recipe for success.

Having known & coached Alex for years, one of my favorite things about him is that he is such a total team player. In the article it mentions he scored 20 points which is great. But Alex is one of those kids that makes a huge impact in the game without scoring large #'s. Don't get fooled by scoring stats with him. He does whatever his team needs him to do to win. He truly can guard all 5 positions, usually guarding the best offensive player on the other team. Talked to him @ the Tulane game on Sunday & he's very excited about this weekend as well as his future @ SMU. SMU fans will love his effort/hustle, his athleticism, his defense, & some serious dunks.

I hope Bandoumel comes back next year as he could become a great mentor for Alex as he adjusts to "next level" bball. Excited about the young guys in SMU's future.

They way that KD and Bandi talked after the Tulane game I wouldn't be surprised if both of them are back next year which would be a ton of fun especially if we can pick up a big man transfer.
