Scott Symons tweeted out this afternoon “big time addition coming soon (eyeballs emoji)”. So it sounds like we will be getting a big fish for the defensive side of the ball. Any ideas?

Miami also had their highly rated backup QB (Jake Garcia 0.9761) hit the portal a few days ago. I don’t know if SMU is pursuing him at all but have seen Miami fans make interesting comments about it. Stuff like “(Garcia) Next one off to SMU”. I suspect they are saying this sort of stuff in jest but I also think they are only half joking.

Only reason I bring that up is the Ole Miss news today which is pure insanity. They now have the incumbent starter Jaxson Dart (0.9693), Walker Howard (0.9809) transferred from LSU less than two days ago, and now 4 year starter at OK state Spencer Sanders who is incredible. You’d expect Dart to move out but that leaves you with two studs. Part of me would love to make a run at Jake garcia but Stone deserves this season and the next for that matter.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that Walker Howard going to Ole Miss was a huge win for SMU and for those of us who want to see Dykes crash and burn at TCU. Howard was expected to transfer to TCU and TCU fans wanted him very very badly. Maybe the day before announcement his crystal ball shifted to ole miss

Looks like the big get that symons was foreshadowing is Coach Maurice Crum. Crum will be LBs coach and running game coordinator. He played LB at Notre Dame. Last year he served as co-defensive coordinator at Ole miss

Question for those smarter than me...does the portal/recruiting success help our cause to move to a P5 conference?

It definitely does help. Two things. The players that we are getting have the ability to compete in the p5 which matters for parity. This especially goes for the defense. No conference wants to bring in a doormat. The guys we are bringing in on the offensive side could make us exciting to watch. Put those two together and you’ve got a competitive team with an electric offense. All of that aside you’ve got to stack the win column

TCU, Houston, Cincy & BYU chose to compete against P5 programs whenever the opportunity arose and they built rosters capable of competing with and beating P5 programs. They hung some skins on the wall before getting invited into the club. SMU is roster building but we don't have skins yet and we don't have a large fan following so there's work to be done before anyone should be thinking we deserve anything. Things are definitely moving in the right direction...finally!

Yes. Because 1) our brand is floating all around social media because of it, which helps visibility, 2) we will be a better team on the field, and 3) it is illustrative of our commitment to compete at a higher level.

TCU and Houston made massive organizational and facilities investment to get to the next level.

We have made lots of progress on organization and facilities, and are making up the remaining gap with NIL. It gets noticed.

The money for SMU and facilities has been there. Organization has been slow.

Without the NIL people stepping up, this would not be happening. We did this before; SMU and Dallas know how and have the recourses to get this done.

Question: Are you helping out?

That is the bottom line.

247 has SMU ranked 43 nationally overall -- freshmen and portal. That's better than more than 20 P1 programs. Also better than any of the other schools mentioned as PAC 12 expansion targets.

We are also higher than Cincy, Houston and UCF.

That's a start but unless/until the current level of recruiting can be sustained and even elevated AND translates to results on the field, it's hard to get overly excited. Cautiously optimistic, yes. Pony up!
