CB makes it 8 transfers for SMU

Cornerback Cale Sanders Jr. (5-11 / 178) announced via his Twitter account that he is transferring from Fresno State to SMU.

Sanders, from Porter (New Caney), Texas, reported offers out of high school from Fresno State, Utah, Texas Tech, UCF, Colorado State, Houston, Louisiana, New Mexico, Sam Houston State, Texas State, UTSA.

From his Fresno State bio:
2021 (FRESHMAN): Appeared in all 13 games as a true freshman … earned the starting cornerback spot for the final four games of the season … finished the year with 20 tackles (18 solo) … had a forced fumble against Boise State (Nov. 6) … had his first collegiate interception on the first pass play of the game against New Mexico (Nov. 13), returned it for 18 yards … had three broken up passes on the season … had a career-high four tackles at San Jose State (Nov. 25) … had at least one tackle in the last six games of the season … was named the Mountain West Freshman of the Week on Aug. 30, following two tackles and a broken up pass after the season opener against UConn (Aug. 28) … part of a Bulldog defense who only allowed 20.5 points per game this season, while also holding two opponents scoreless. It was the first time since 2017 that a Fresno State team had multiple shutouts in a season … helped Fresno State to two wins over ranked opponents, both on the road. It was the first time Fresno State defeated two Top 25 opponents in a season for the first time since 2004, and the first time both wins came on the road in the 100 year history of the program.

HIGH SCHOOL: Attended New Caney High School in Porter, Texas ... rated a three star recruit by 247Sports … four-year varsity football player … had 227 total tackles (122 solo) in his career. Recorded 24 TFL in his career, six career sacks, four career interceptions, 25 defended passes, four fumble recoveries and one forced fumble … in his senior season in 2020, Sanders had 51 tackles, two interceptions, five defended passes and a fumble recovery in just eight games on the year … also a major contributor on the offensive side of the ball as a running back, and added additional yardage as a returner … helped his team to three district titles and a 33-12 overall record in his time at New Caney HS … was the District 9-5A Offensive Most Valuable Player in 2019 … earned first team All-Montgomery County honors as an athlete in 2019 … was a second team All-County selection in 2018 … also in 2018, he was a first team District 9-5A selection … in his freshman year, he was named the District 21-5A Newcomer of the Year and a second team All-Montgomery County defensive back … also a member of the track team … had offers from Texas Tech, UCF, Colorado State and Houston.
