SMU adds local WR

Postby PonyPride » Mon Jul 10, 2023 2:05 pm

Case Holleron, a wide receiver from Lewisville (Hebron), Texas, announced on social media that he has committed to SMU. Didn't say whether he is on scholarship or a preferred walk-on.

In 10 games as a senior, Holleron (6-4 / 200) had 56 receptions for 893 yards and 7 receiving touchdowns.

Class of 2023 so coming in this year. Good to have 6'4" receiver. BTW, nice blindside block highlight.

Another way SMU has been disadvantaged in recruiting is our high tuition when it comes to recruiting preferred walk-ons. I don't know if this is something NIL can address, but if it could, that could go a long way toward leveling the playing field in this area.

Spot-on. I saw a graphic recently, and I'm not sure of the source or accuracy, but it said that SMU is now THE most expensive school in the state ... and if I remember correctly, the listed cost was more than $81K per year.

Ouch.

STEEP to anyone!. I think SMU has been one of the Top 10 most expensive schools in the country for some time now. Not sure how many students actually pay full boat these days.

Going to guess that SMU remains good with Student Aid. Class of '87 here. SMU was attractive to me for many reasons, one of which was a good financial aid package. I grew up in the Los Angeles area. After my aid package, it was well cheaper than USC, and not too far from UCLA costs. My other school of interest was University of Denver. But my heart was on SMU, so it became easy choice!

I have a co-worker whose daughter won some kind of a scholarship through her high school for grades, extra-curricular success and general awesomeness (I'm guessing that's a parental paraphrase).

I offered big congratulations, bringing up that I'm a proud SMU grad ... and was told that the "scholarship" was for $500/year. The family is loaded, so it's a non-issue (and her scholarship applies to whatever school she ends up choosing), but talk about a virtually meaningless scholarship.

Against an $81K price tag, $500 is the proverbial drop in the bucket. But if she chooses to attend SMU, she will count in that 83 percent that receives "some type of discount."

Thank the Lord my daughter left with 50K in loans to pay back. I was/am thrilled.
