According to her Twitter account, former Notre Dame forward Amirah Abdur Rahim has committed to SMU. The 6-3 Abdur Rahim was a freshman for the Irish in 2020-21, coming off the bench in eight games.
She attended St. Francis HS in Marietta, Ga., where she averaged 14.1, 4.6 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.4 blocks per game as a senior while shooting 60.1 percent from the floor.. Abdur-Rahim shot an impressive 60.1 percent on the year points per game. She was a 2020 Georgia Athletic Coaches Association (GACA) All-State Team selection – Class A North honoree, 2020 AJC Class A Private All-State Honorable Mention and named a 2020 Atlanta All-Metro First Team selection in the North Fulton district.
She also competed on the track team as well, where she ran the 200, 400 and 800 meter relays. Also competed in the high jump and triple jump.
Seems to fit head coach Toyelle Wilson's emphasis on defense. When she signed with Notre Dame, HC Muffet McGraw said "Adding a great defender in Amirah. She’s someone who can block shots and guard anybody on the floor, from point guard to center. She’ll help us in the press as well. She can run the floor and help us in transition. She’s also a three-point threat. We don’t have anyone like her."
