SMU Senior Night Ends With Overtime Celebration

DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU women's basketball team sent its seniors out in style with a 65-61 overtime win against Temple Monday night in Moody Coliseum.

Savannah Wilkinson scored eight of her 12 points during the five-minute extra period. However, it was the two-point jump shot that put her into double figures and extended the SMU lead to four, 63-59, with 16 seconds remaining in overtime that was arguably the most valuable of the 12.

Mia Davis, who led the Owls with 28 points, made a pair of free throws on the other end with 12 seconds left. Davis then committed her fifth foul, sending Wilkinson to the line for the third time in the game. The London native drained both shots with eight seconds on the clock to seal the win. SMU outscored the Owls 12-8 after the two teams managed only 10 points each in the 10-minute fourth quarter.

SMU took a four-point lead into the locker room after a 12-6 second quarter put the Mustangs in front, 29-25. The Mustangs reached double figures in each of the four quarters, and three players reached double digits scoring.

Kayla White led the Mustangs with 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Jasmine Smith matched Wilkinson with 12 points. Sydne Wiggins finished with nine points and six assists. Danielle Sanderlin added six points and a game-high nine rebounds.

The Mustangs (13-12, 7-6 American Athletic Conference) and the Owls (12-14) each shot 36 percent from the field with SMU making 23 field goals to Temple's 21. The game was largely decided at the free throw line, with SMU making 16 to Temple's 10. Wilkinson went 6-for-6 at the charity stripe in overtime.

SMU and Temple will face off again Wednesday night in the regular-season finale. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. in Moody Coliseum.
