We should uncover evidence (wink, wink) that our athletic secretary was taking tests for some non student-athletes so we can have our violations waived as well. Scholarships reinstated immediately, a "4th Seed Go to the NCAA tourney FREE" card we can use at our leisure in the future, and $ for pain and suffering equal to the cost of a new IPF.

Boom goes the dynamite.

This is why I never ever apologized for SMU cheating.

Those of you on this board, many whom I respect, who say..."but we deserved it", let's just say we have a difference of opinion, and always will.

To be fair, we did "deserve it" but obviously so have many "brand names" that came after us. I agree there is a double standard in enforcement, but it's all because we never developed the brand name necessary to become a cash cow for the NCAA

absolutely disgusting incompetence and shameful hypocrisy. They basically investigate for years, determine they have more than enough grounds to investigate and evidence to level a public judgement, then they say actually nevermind at the end. Wtf? only the NCAA and its band of shameless crooks could deliver this with a straight face.

CP, If you were to ask me of the Top 200 D1-A and 2-A programs for FB and BB (combined 400 in total), I would guess over 350 cheat.

I agree it might be close to that. Plenty of FCS programs very "competitive" these days. Maybe not as blatant as the big boys, but minor violations are commonplace and I've seen it everywhere I've lived and at virtually every program. Something as simple as free meals or drinks to encourage "star" athletes to hang around certain establishments. Pretty tame, but still violations.

This ruling came the same day that an NC State player was ruled ineligible for 2017 because he took one summer class at Ohio State before transferring when Ohio State's coach left. The NCAA is a joke. Can't wait to hear what Jay Bilas says about the ruling. He hates and NCAA and hate UNC. So, he ought to be pretty entertaining.

I'd love to see the figures released for what the NCAA spent on this dud ruling. Obviously must be a drop in the bucket compared to what UNC helps them pull in.

To paraphrase the blogger Iowahawk:

Take a class -- suspended
Run a fake academic department for 15 years to keep your athletes eligible -- no problemo

Does this make their graduation requirement mute? Why have academic standards if fake courses can give fake grades and the NCAA accpts it cause it open to all students. So now a college can set up nothing but pure fake courses and give athletes straight As so long as all students can get the goody course.

Talk about letting the Big Boys know how to cheat moving forward!!!!

NCAA surely doesn't give a hooot in Hades about education.

I'm really POed about this. Think had Pye pioneered the UNC method post Death Penalty. We could have been the model of academic preformance and winning withiin a couple of years.

I always thought the UNC FAMILY stuff was a wholesome catchphrase. I'm now reevaluating. We just need to be more inclusive. Our bad. Who should I address the apology to? NCAA or UNC?
