The Methodists can go to hell. We should do whatever it takes to empty out the "theology school" (whatever that really even means) and give the land to the Lyle School of Engineering.

And they are already moving towards putting "SMU" on the campus signage. Notice that big new brick and stone sign on SMU Blvd?

If we are gonna cut back on the academics (Theology is one of our best schools) why don't we do away with the academics altogether and become a pro football, basketball organization. LOL I hope you were joking. No one in their right mind should want to cut any academic department at SMU. In fact, I would like to see us continue to broaden the academic brand of our university. After all, this university means more to me than just sports. However, I too see the need to brand the ATHLETIC department. SMU IS the correct 'brand' for Southern Methodist University sports.

Wow. What a pleasant thought.

General comment and not directed at the original poster, but I never understand why somebody who hates religion so much would voluntarily choose to attend Southern Methodist University.

Agreed, Dan.

SMU wouldn't exist if not for the Methodist Church.

People:

The intention of this post was not to remove "Southern Methodist" from the University's name...only the athletic brand!
Our university is Southern Methodist University, and it will always be called that way.

Our athletic programs are "SMU"

Probably the most lucid, concise, on - point post you've ever made B12. Good job.

Because people are uninformed. The only way to inform them is:

1) Create a consistent brand (i.e. "SMU")
2) expose people to it regularly (i.e. Win)

I know you know this, though.
