Stars don’t tell the whole story, but yes they do have a correlation to players skill level/upside. There will always be late bloomers/guys who are looked over like Ben Moore’s, Jarrey Foster’s and Nic Moore’s. But getting 4-stars through signing or transfers like Shake, Sterling, Semi etc is still key to go with the occasional under the radar late bloomer overachiever types. Personally after the top 80ish there isn’t much difference between 83 and 147.

Feron Hunt is the cutoff on 247 between 3 and 4-Star. He is a late bloomer, who is freakishly athletic, long, with a high motor, great rebounder who can attack the basket with the best of em. That’s the exact kind of guy (3/4 man) that we were looking for in this class. His ceiling is just as high as Archie’s. Archie might be a little farther along shooting wise and as a ball handler right now, but both have immensely high ceilings. Hunt isn’t a downgrade in recruiting at all. He is the type of guy we should be filing our classes with and then trying to hit homeruns with Shake’s, Maxey’s, Liddell’s and then supplement more top 100 talent with transfers. don’t get how anyone could be upset about landing Hunt. He is a basically a low 4-Star late blooming talent.

Seems to me like jack bought into the LB idea that a team of 5 guys on the floor that are 6-7, could crush. We are building that nicely with complimentary smaller pure scorers.

He fits our system perfectly and is a replica of the type of guys we have recruited the last 4 years which has made us one of the top 5 winningest programs since 2014

Anyone panning the Hunt commitment is an idiot. 6-8 wings who are freak athletes and can shoot don't exactly grow on trees.

Consider Hunt, Isiaha Mike, and Jahmar our 2018 class, and we may not be done yet.

BTW I heard a respected national recruiting analyst say it was the worst Class for Center/Big Men in a decade--so those quality 6-8, 6-9 guys are important

Can we put this to bed. We missed on Archie, b/c his Pops isn't a huge Tyrone Maxey guy. TCU wanted to keep Hunt, definitively, but Hunt dislikes Archie. As the recruiting world turns, but these aren't true misses for either program. Both landed a big time wing. Feron can play up too. Very possibly a 4, depending on roster, in an awful bigs year. Adding him next to Chargois/Ray/Mike/Jarrey/Agau for much of his career is an embarrassment of riches. Getting to casually develop a 6'9 kid w Tulsa and Sun Belt types offers, w/no repercussions if it doesn't work out, is big time. Possibly adding lil Jank as a walk-on sniper is real depth at the end of sanctions.

To say SMU has lost steam on the trail, flies in the face of how the program was built. We are Transfer U w/a sprinkling of high school talent in the Top 200. Adding Agau for 2 and Jahmel plus Whitt is high major central. The frosh class is quite good so far from reports, but a wait and see.

If by some miracle, Shake and Jarrey are both here next year. That team is as good as any we've had on paper
