I actually thought the attendance was a little higher??

MrM65, was that you holding the license plate? If so, you get an A for enthusiasm.

Not sure if it would have made much difference, but classes don't begin until next week, so most of the students are still not back from break. It was a little cold between the parking lot and Moody, but hey guys...it wasn't that bad. We need everyone to get their arses to the games.

Looked pretty typical to me ~ 1500-2000. It would be so loud if there were 5000 screaming SMU fans....ok, I'll stop dreaming :)

HixsontoLeVias...you're either getting senile or just seeing things. Your reading comprehension sucks.

once the winning starts consistently, the crowds will take care of themselves.
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

we've had this discussion on many occassions. even if this team was top 25, there still would be no more than 5000....that is just the way Dallas and our fans are unfortunately.

disagree totally with ya -

if we won 'consistently' over several yrs, top 25, 10 & all that, the crowds will be there - rest assured -

the point is that we've never done it before on a consistent basis - its always been fly-by-nite or a short annual run & then it dies.

WINNING IN CONTAGEOUS!

Although winning will drive attendance, even the most casual observer can now recognize that real basketball is being played by motivated people. If we can convince a few new people to come out and view the difference, that will also give us a little boost. To go from 2K to 5K on a consistent basis is a huge progression. It isn't going to happen in one year that a hoop game is THE place to be. Just keep bringing new people when you come and hope we continue to play with passion. You have to remember this is ground zero plus a couple of months with regards to any resurgence of our basketball program. Great job Coach Tubbs, players and staff.

Prediction: Which game do we draw over 5000...?

Postby HixsontoLeVias » Sat Jan 08, 2005 12:56 am

Anyone..? PK: What temp b/w the parking lot and student body "back from break" gets us there? Do we draw 5000 this year?

Not sure if we will or won't reach a crowd level of 5000 this year. Of the remaining home games, UTEP, La Tech and Tulsa travel best, but those three games are all played on week nights...so the traveling bit doesn't mean much. UTEP probably has the highest number of alums in the area so it should be a fairly well attended game, but unless the SMU "faithful" get off their couches and come to the game it probably won't make the magic HixontoLeVias number.

As for the sudent body(ies) coming to the game...that would probably only increase the number by maybe 500...but at least it would be an increase.
