Fresno-SMU Women's Game Attendance

Postby mustangbill67 » Fri Jan 07, 2005 12:27 pm

I noticed that the Fresno SMU women's game drew over 3700 in Fresno. Makes the attendance at the men's game look even more pathetic.

is this a new revelation for some of you guys? Our attendance problem is the same one as last year, as the year before that, as the year before that and on and on. SMU will never draw as well as Fresno. They are a big school in a medium size city with no competition for the sports and entertainment dollar. We are a small school in a big city that has lost touch with its already small alumni base because we haven't done the things it takes to win. Simple enough.

Fresno is the best in the WAC at supporting all their sports across the board. They are at or near the top for football and basketball, and they support everything else, soccer, softball, baseball, womens hoops, etc., better than some WAC schools support their "revenue" sports. I'm not at all surprised that last nights womens game drew well there, the Lady Dogs were 10-1, 2-0 in the WAC, and the winner of that game moved into a first place tie. It was an important game for them.

When Fresno comes to Moody, they may bring a couple hundred fans. They have several players from this area, and a big group of friends and family always come to see them.

The womens game at TCU drew 3055, about average for what the Lady toads are drawing.
Try not to choke on the Kool-Aid.

Have any of you ever been to Fresno? If not look at a map of CA. The college is the the only game in town and nothing nearby. Something like Fayetteville.

Have you ever driven to El Paso? UTEP and Rooster fighting is the only entertainment for 700 miles.
