Mustang Club Basketball Reception

Postby mustangbill67 » Thu Nov 10, 2005 9:36 pm

At the reception tonight, Coach Tubbs without mentioning any names, seemed optimistic we could sign Shady especially if he waited to the April signing period. Tubbs also indicated there was a outstanding out of state recruit who might sign with the Ponies in the early period. Any idea who this is? I do not remember any of the particulars about this recruit.

I wouldnt actually characterize it as optimistic. My take on what he said was that if 'the recruit' waits until the spring to sign we have a better chance at him. We can keep working on him that way. Tubbs thinks he will wait, but isnt completely sure. No one can be with 18 year olds.
Youre right, Tubbs gushed about an out of state guy he is hoping to sign in the next few days. 6'5 athlete. I doubt he's four star or anything but Tubbs obviously likes him alot.

The recruit we probably have a better chance for if he waits til April is Darrell Arthur aka Slim Shady. I do not know who the other recruit is.

I agree that Tubbs feels we have a better chance with more time. However, listening closely to what he said and his body language, I did detect a certain level of optimism. Probably just wishfull thinking on my part. 8)

There is only one top 20 ranked player that is unsigned and not eligible for the NBA draft. It just so happens that is Indiana's biggest recruiting target, 6-foot-9 forward Darrell Arthur from South Oak Cliff High School in Dallas. The word on Arthur has been that he likely will wait till the spring to sign and last night his advisor and summer coach Jazzy Hartwell confirmed that the the Texas native will not sign here in the early period and that no commitment is likely to come before this winter's basketball season is completed.

This Jazzy guy sure has an interesting place in the recruiting mix.

Could Jazzy be an Asst. Coach? A special consultant? A marketing and ticket sales assistant?
Just thinking and no, I do not know if any of these are possible.

The player you are talking about is Radar Onguetou. He has been talked about before on this board. He has already visited and is from The New Hampton School ( a prep school). He is 6'5" and weighs 215.

I posted that link in the thread on Jermaine Beal, about a month ago, when Radar came for his visit. We havent really talked about him much. I havent seen him play and dont know much beyond whats in the article. Jimmy seems to really like him, though.

Correction --
I listed the wrong name in my previous post. I believe the correct name to be Menghe Nyam who is also from the same prep school.
