That IS SAD. REST IN PEACE OP. The older alums seem to be the ones that stuck around for the good days to come back.

SmooPower, would it be any kind of a breach of site rules for you to post a link to the obit? If it is, I want to add this to my living will: being of sound mind and body, as of right now, should RGV Pony and his alter ego (xxxx) pass away to the Hilltop on High, it is okay to post a link to my obit if anyone wants to see it.

RIP OldPony.

I went back and checked and found the Obit I referred to early in this post. It was Dr. Charles Sprague who was not only a medical doctor and administrator, but also played football, ran track and captained the SMU basketball team. I have no idea if this was Old Pony or not, but the timing would be about right.

Rest in peace, OldPony. Even though I never knew you, it's still sad.

It takes a special type of person to be a diehard SMU fan. If any friends or family members are reading, I hope OP's passing wasn't a surprise and that he lived a good long life.

No, that is not OP. OldPony wasn't really all that old. From what I remember from some of his post he graduated in 68 or 69 which would have him in his late 50's. Also I believe he lived in Kansas.

Found this in one of his old posts. "My apologies Plano. OP was there from 64-69 football season and didn't remeber the change. Sometimes eyewitnesses are very good!!! Maybe we didn't notice the unis because we were watching good football?"

yeah Dr. Charles Sprague was a very prominent member of the Dallas elite-one of the great graduates of our university.

My last missive re: Old Pony. Guess I'll have to look for another wicked sense of humor....

I, too, genuinely miss OP. He was a sharp-witted old buzzard, and he made me laugh almost daily. Rest in peace old man. (I always agreed with him about Bhop.)

BHop was one of the few things he was ever wrong about around here. Good dude.

I think OP had expectations that BHop would be the program's savior. And when Hopkins didn't singlehandedly carry SMU to national prominence, OP declared him a failure. Always seemed a touch overreactive to me, but there was also always a sense that OP just liked to push buttons at times.

Well, he's certainly got the best seats in the house now. Rest in peace OP -- and put in the good word for your Mustangs.
