Women lose again

Postby mustangbill67 » Sat Dec 17, 2005 8:45 pm

SMU women lost 71-61 to Liberty of the Big South Conference Friday night. We are now 3-6. To lose to this lower level Div. I team is not a good sign for the future of this team.

For what it's worth, women's basketball is actually one of the only sports Liberty is good at. They go dancing just about every year. Plus, let's face it...they do have the Lord on their side.

Oh for god's sake, stop it. A year ago, the Ponies far exceeded everyone's expectations, and some folks were saying Coach Rompola should have been conference coach of the year. She's a very good coach. I realize there are PonyFans who have an ax to grind with Copeland, and that's your choice, but Coach Rompola is not the issue. She's a terrific coach and a great Mustang.

Still trying to figure why we extended her contract last year. One good year and we started handing out extensions. It is not like Rhonda was going anywhere else. If she loses and continues to lose do you think we have the money to get a new coach. Heck no! Just another stupid decision by the worst AD in SMU history.

She taken us to the dance more often than any Men's coach of recent vintage and she's taken us to the NIT more than any men's coach of recent vintage. She obviously can coach, she can recruit, but there are always slumps with any team, and unfortunately this is one of those years. Perhaps we should fire Hyndaman for not winning the title this year? You're analysis is way off here.

This program is going nowhere. If she is such a good recruiter and such a good coach (not to mention a ball o' fire) she oughta have a lot of attractive offers... other schools offering her big buck$ to take the reins of their womens program. The change would be good for all involved. We need some new blood. RR is a convenient holdover from the Coach Brown era. We're going through the motions...

Isn't that the status quo for SMU athletics?

If anyone deserves an extension, then it would Hyndaman who arguably has done his greatest coaching this year.

What I did not understand is the fact that last years team cratered in the 2nd half, got bounced out of the WAC tourney in the 1st round and then got hammered in the 1st round of the NIT. This is not deserving of a contract extension. I don't care what happened in the '99- '00 season.

Also the NIT is the losers bracket. It says you might be a top 100 team but not a Top 50 team. What we know right now is that Rhonda used to be able to coach and recruit. Right now she is in the middle of her 4th sub par year in the the last 5. We fire men's coaches for this type of performance or at least we should.
