Christian Life 65, Herit. 50

Heritage led after the first quarter, but was unable to notch another victory over a large school, falling 65-50 to Christian Life Center (Humble Texas) in the semifinals of the Alaska Airlines Classic at West.

Heritage, which already boasts wins over Bartlett, East, Eagle River and Soldotna, held a 17-15 lead after the first quarter against a Christian Life team that opened with a 35-5 run in an 88-51 win over Bartlett on Thursday.

Jeremiah Ridgeway led the Eagles with 23 points. Heritage hit six 3-pointer in the contest.

Leslee Smith led the Cougars with 18 points.

Smith's facebook is funny w/regards to this trip. You can tell a kid from BVI is somewhat weirded out by Alaska. Anyway, thanks for the updates, Papa.

From the very first play of Thursday's opening game, it was apparent the level of play at the tournament is going to be high. After the Cougars won the opening tip, Christian Life forward Leslee Smith converted an alley-oop dunk to rival any slams thrown down at the Great Alaska Shootout.

West 89, Christian Life 78


Tournament MVP Devin Bookert scored 29 points to lead West to an 89-78 win over Christian Life (Humble, Texas) in the championship game of the Alaska Airlines Classic at West.

The victory avenged a 76-69 loss to Christian Life in the championship game last year.

The Eagles trailed 67-63 after three quarters then outscored Christian Life 26-11 in the fourth, making 13 of 19 free throws in the quarter.

Tom Feeney added 24 points for the Eagles.

Leslee Smith led Christian Life with 19 points.

Christian Life 23 20 24 11 -- 78

West 25 16 22 26 -- 89

Christian Life -- C. Smith 13, Hardwick 4, L. Smith 19, Carter 15, Pukis 10, Jones 11, Coleman 6.
