You guys are full of [deleted]...You all would call Johnny Wooden a farce........Larry Brown is a basketball genius and if he would even THINK of coming here we should be honored. NO one that would come here would be worthy apparently....

Amen Hoopman - who are we trying to "excite" exactly? The national perception? SMU fans don't get excited about much at all. I'd rather just win games and that's going to take 3-4 years regardless of who we hire. Maybe AI could be his assistant coach

We're all pretty much picking apart every candidate, which is a message board sport. We may not like candidate X for this reason or that. After a while, it gets tiresome and silly.

In the end, our opinion (because we think we know better) matters little except that we care about the health of the BB program and just want it to succeed. And while we may have our issues with SO from a basketball standpoint, we just have to hope that he, Braine and the C of C hoopsters will make a good choice because they know the importance of this hire as well.

Hang in there.

I don't know enough about basketball to give a $h!t about who we hire. All I care about is that the team wins and I enjoy watching them play. Plan and simple!

Not at all. I like Larry Brown, and I was responding to the person who said that Larry is the type of person who leaves in a few years. That's true - but I think he'd leave SMU after a few years not for another job, but to retire.

I don't think that would be a bad thing, if he had someone learning under him ready to take the reins when he did leave. And I would think that we would want him to leave after only a few years, because in basketball, as one ages, they become less able to relate to recruits.

Realism? Yes. Ageism? No...but I can see how it would be taken that way.

I do think there are better candidates for the job out there. They are younger than Larry Brown, but that's not the primary reason why I think they are better candidates.

The days of Boeheim, Calhoun, Coach K where coaches build a program and stay forever are gone. So, who's to say that if we hire a great young coach, he won't flee to greener pastures in a year or two. Look at Tubby, Nolan, Calipiri, Pitino, Billy Clyde, etc. Larry Brown gets you a winner and then he leaves. I heard Tony K talking about him on his DC radio show this morning. They still love him in Kansas because he got them a National Championship after inheriting a program that was in shambles. If Larry Brown got us a NC,I'd be tickled to death. I'd rather rent Brown and have him leave the program much better than he found it, than hire a guy who leaves the program slightly better than he found it. But any coach who can build a program is welcome.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

Orsini doesn't have time for Brown. He's busy interviewing Bruce Weber.
