Wouldn't that also apply for the entire UConn team?

Roscoe Smith had a legendary transcript coming out of Bmore, to the point where Duke tried to get him to admit to being learning disabled, so they could backdoor him through some program they have at the hospital.

Smith/Turner & Head wouldn't win at scrabble, but they can play ball

What if they were playing scrabble against each other? Food for thought

call me crazy, but I am glad we seem to be stepping up to the talent levels of big time programs. At this early stage in our growth, we may have to take some chances on some kids, and I am fine with that.

We've had STUDENT-athletes for 20 plus years now. Time to get some ATHLETE-students, and compete on a level playing field in bball.

If LB can handle AI and Rasheed, pro ballers making millions, I think he can handle college kids that may just need some direction in their lives.

Kids like this make me nervous. We had a splashy one in the 80s who Dave Bliss couldn't handle and he led the team into a tailspin. Still, I'm no Larry Brown. If he can handle some of the refuse in the NBA maybe he can make this kid a legitimate student athlete.

Seriously, people can't have it both ways. If they complain about our athletic departments as money losers, then we have 2 solutions: 1) bring in the top players to make it profitable or 2) shut it down. Our strategy (if we can call it a strategy) over the last 25 years is not the way to go. Being sub-par to middle-of-the-road is never a good strategy.

Go Mustangs!

I don't necessarily have a problem as long as LB can keep him out of trouble and eligible to play for however long (probably not more than one season) he intends to be here. I will admit that it is hard to adjust your thinking away from SMU's traditionally accepted notion of the STUDENT athlete when it comes to college hoops, but we need to in order to level the field a bit. If the kid wants to come and light up Moody and can stay eligible then come on over!

i just hope someone has thrown in some extra dough for basketball tutors - and sat down to figure out where these players will be taking classes. This isnt TCU - it is hard to find enough blow off classes to advance toward a degree. Of course - at this level we may only need to worry about 2 years, not four....

Duke does it every year (excellence in BB at a school with a good academic reputation). If you say, well, they're "Duke" - Yes, exactly. So how did they become "Duke"?
