SID: SMU branding - SMU, not Southern Methodist

Screw rally house - don't give them your money anyway. Same excuse every time I went in about SMU's licensing being the issue as to why they didn't carry more merchandise, which we know isn't the issue anymore.

Until they move us out of the back corner and carry more than 3 shirts in their Fairview store they won't get a dime from me no matter how they brand us.

There was a big move by SMU to get rally house to change their ways. Sounds like it might have worked, though not perfectly. SID mentioned that RH was invited to a few bball game suites this year to show them what's happening in the market.

I had been to Rally House several months ago and the selection this time around was about double. They told me they are planning to expand the SMU section, but I did notice TCU had way too much merchandise in there...

But nobody is buying the TCU crap any more.

St. Mary's in moraga is D1 in the west coast conference. Some people in northern california sometimes will confuse it with that. I still think that if you know anyting about college athletics or colleges tho your first thought when you hear SMU should be us given we are d 1 in football and our history in sports

we are SMU. Nobody else owns that. We need to insist - and every single time they put southern meth or southern methodist our SID needs to send a pointed email with the request/demand that they go with SMU.

someone needs to have this as their job - and we need to wear them out.

More people recognize "SMU" than "Southern Meth." - getting a standard brand should be a priority. If we keep winning in basketball (or football like TCU) then ESPN will actually do something. I think UCF was being noted as "Central Florida" on ESPN broadcasts up to (or including) last year. That will definitely change now that they've had some significant success.

Edit: No one confuses SMU with St. Mary's College (CA) or St. Mary's University (TX); this shouldn't even be a consideration.

I don't think SMU is a problem with the Church. I think they know what SMU stands for. However, I don't think the school has pushed to be recognized by SMU. If you look at the permanent signs around campus I think some or all read "Southern Methodist University."

I didn't state that very good Bergermeister. I'm agreeing with you except for the point of the Church. They are not the problem with branding. It's the confusion from the campus (as you pointed out).

Somewhere on the licensing page it states, when referring to athletics SMU should be used instead of Southern Methodist University. When referring to the school one may use SMU or Southern Methodist University.

Growing up in Florida, I definitely heard people say "Florida State" often, not always "FSU". Also, on TV I know I've heard "Southern Cal" for USC.

Im fine with Southern Methodist, no shame in that.
