If you live in the Northeast, the suburbs offer a "reasonable" cost of living, good schools, and we are close to NYC, Newport, and Boston. For three seasons, we have great golf weather. Taxes are horrible, but that is common up in BlueStateLand. But, it is a pretty boring place to visit. While the nightlife for young people has improved (allegedly - I am married), it will never be mistaken for Austin. Down the street from my office, our last corrupt governor built a new convention center. If my company sent me to Hartford for a, convention, I might just quit.

Sad they lost the NHL Whalers to freaking Raleigh, NC over a decade ago. I've heard the XL Center is a dump though

No. The mall went out of business years ago. They have redeveloped the area around the arena into some nice properties. While not modern, the view from most of the seats are very good because all of the suites are at the top of the arena. The "upper deck" seats are significantly better than at the AAC in Dallas. While there is talk of building a modern arena, it is a pipe dream.

Sad. I was a huge fan of the mighty whale. Always my team on NHL 94. Long live Sean Burke and Brass Bonanza

Mark Cuban seems to enjoy our games. Someone should ask if he'd be interested in helping us lobby for an AAC tournament at the AAC.

It ain't gonna look like that in March. As much as I like the convenience for me I'd just as soon escape to a warmer location.

We had a sleet storm last night and woke up to ice on the car.

ponyboy wrote:I'm not planning on sunbathing in Hartford. Solid plan! But, as Digety mentioned: it snowed, iced, sleeted and generally froze up here last night. I love where I live but I also love escaping to temporary warmth and look for any excuse to do so. If for some weird reason the tourney the tourney ends up in St Barths I'm not going there to sunbathe either. But I like the option! Tampa, Orlando, New Orleans, Dallas, Memphis (nope, Sorry, not Houston) are all > Hartford.

This. Football Bowl games and Basketball conference tournaments are held during a time where it is very cold in the north. Make it a nice place to go to at least! Orlando, Dallas, New Orleans, etc
