The team may be able to recover the loss of Jeryl...with players like Simpson and the Oklahoma kid...we should be good...But what do we have as for size down low?

Hopkins should be a great addition as well but we'll have to wait a year.

I don't think that the loss of Sass is as detrimental as you might think. The area that we will miss him the most in is rebounding. Offensively, he was as much of a distraction as he was a dominant player. He was a great player for SMU, but the dynamics of the team can change without compromising our ability.

I think we will surprise people this year with improved play in the low post. If Forinash, Niemi & Smith get and stay healthy, we've got some big bodies we can throw at people and they'll have lots of fouls to give. None should have to play long stretches of minutes, which should help our intensity in the low blocks. Kelley should be improved at the 4 spot and Castro might be in position to earn some PT there as well.

No question this will be an area of concern for the 2002-2003 season, and we need to find a big man for that last scholarship!

Didn't mean to forget Pharis. As a JUCO, he might also contribute this year and certainly in 2002-2003.
