PonyFans.com VIDEO: State of the team with LARRY BROWN

SMU men's basketball head coach Larry Brown weighed in on a number of subjects, including which 2013-14 freshman has a chance to make the biggest improvement this season (and why), who will share backup point guard minutes behind Nic Moore and how Markus Kennedy's still-improving conditioning will help his game improve in 2014-15.

Yeah, I didnt see that coming either. Ben is a heckuva talent but I'm not sure I want him bringing the ball up the floor against UConn's guards

Are we going to get the next Magic?

Are we going to get the next Shaun Livingston?

Are we going to get the next Kyle Anderson?

Could create matchup hell if Ben becomes a legit Point Forward when Nic is on the bench.

I trust LB.

Did you catch LB's comment about there are other ways to get the ball up the floor. (meaning
that you don't always have to rely on the point to bring the ball up.)

During this debate on PonyFans I have been thinking back into the days of the Roman Empire
when I played guard - we didn't have a point guard per se. If the other team scored, we raced
to the net, ripped the ball out of the net, and fired the ball up the court to a running forward or
guard who in turn hit an open man for a quick shot. We attacked before the other team could
set up it's defense. I feel sure that Larry was thinking of this possibility because he is talking more
about playing fast.

If this is true, we may not have to worry so much about who the backup point guard is. While
Nic is on the bench we might have a few fresh players in the game who could run and scramble
more and give it their all for 4-5 minutes.

Have you ever heard of anything so crazy?
