Former Vanderbilt starting point guard Kedren Johnson Tweeted that he’s transferring to Memphis. Vandy suspended him last July for reasons not disclosed and he set out the 2013-14 season. He may be eligible to play this season and, if so, it is a big plus for a Memphis team that lacks a proven point guard.

His sophomore year he led Vandy in scoring and assists -- averaging 13.5 points and 3.6 assists. He also grabbed 3.5 rebounds. He has two years of eligibility remaining.

13 pts is nice, but is was against the weak SEC, so maybe not that big a deal.

Memphis needed another guard with experience. This is a good thing for us - improves our conference's strength

Memphis plays five tough OOC games - Okie St, Zags, Baylor, Wichita St and SFA.

Just as long as they don't have to play a team from Canada, they should be in good shape.

I wish we could have gotten him since he is eligible immediately.

He was really last minute. Sat out last season, but planned to return to Vandy for this season.

If this were the pros, I would tell you that Dominic Woodson was released on August 14 to make room on the squad for him. Since this is college, it is simply a fortunate coincidence. Worked out well for the Tigers -- they didn't have a point guard with D1 experience, and this guy put up good numbers in the SEC.

FYI, Woodson transferred to TENN, and Pastner, to his credit, supports Woodson being eligible this year under the "cut from roster" clause.
