Tremendous win for the Lady Mustangs, particularly considering how they struggled against USC the other night. Part of the USC loss can be attributed to the unexpected return of Rometra Craig (daughter of former 49ers All-Pro running back, Roger Craig), but the team just didnt not play well that night. Its great to see them bounce back from that with such a quality win. Oklahoma was a Final Four team last year, the defending Big 12 champions. They have wins over North Carolina and TCU this year, and their only other losses were to Tennessee and UConn.
The Lady Mustangs are in the toughest part of their schedule right now, playing at least 5 ranked teams in a 7 game stretch. It could be 6 ranked teams, depending on the outcome of the Tulane tournament. Their earlier wins over Wake Forest and Missouri made them solid NIT prospects, but to become serious NCAA tourney contenders they needed at least 1 win over a top-25 team. This win will really strengthen their RPI numbers and post-season prospects.
The win also keeps alive a nice streak, the Lady Mustangs have beaten at least one ranked team every year since Rhonda Rompola became head coach.
Congrats again to the Lady Mustangs.

A few hours ago I found out that our win came with an extremely heavy price. Just 5 minutes into the game the teams were returning to the court after a time out, and Lady Mustang center Kim Walters appeared to trip over the foot of an OU player, and had to leave the game with a knee injury. It wasnt a big collision, or anything that appeared as catastrophic as it now appears to be. I'm told now that Kim tore not only all the ligaments and tendons of her knee, but some of the larger blood vessels, as well. She has already had one surgery, and will probably require 2-3 more. Her basketball career may be over.

Senior center Kaci Alexander severely sprained her ankle near the end of the game. I spoke to Kaci at the mens game tonight and she was hopeful to be well before their game with 18th ranked Boston College this coming Friday. The team is off now, and will not practice again until the day after Christmas.
