ATTN: People who run bandModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower ATTN: People who run bandStop playing at all points except halftime and the end of the game. It'll make everyone much happier.
People have mentioned it elsewhere, but dear lord if the band isn't an energy sucking vacuum I'd hate to know what is. Really noticed it tonight for whatever reason. Get much better extremely fast our house music the entire game. Usually, the team that scores the most points wins the game - John Madden
Re: ATTN: People who run bandThe awfulness of the Mob and the energy drain of the band became very apparent tonight (not that they weren't before).
I was having flashbacks to old Moody late in the 2nd half when I could hear the handful of UCSB fans chanting defense and the Mob just stood there looking clueless as usual. And pretty much every band song ended with the arena silent and the horn sounding.
Re: ATTN: People who run bandThings need to change now. There is absolutely no flow or energy in Moody 80% of the game. The first 35 minutes of the game tonight were as bad as it's been all year.
And yes, the 20 UCSB fans were louder than the MOB most of the game. Last edited by LA_Mustang on Mon Dec 08, 2014 11:44 pm, edited 2 times in total.

Re: ATTN: People who run bandYou mean no one liked how they waited until the last minute of the game to play Seven Nation Army the 30 seconds before we had two crucial free throws to make??? ugh
Re: ATTN: People who run band
Exactly! I swear at this point they are doing it intentionally. Shake It Off Moody
Re: ATTN: People who run bandBand seats could provide some much needed additional revenue
Peruna is my mascot!
Re: ATTN: People who run bandYou know it's bad when my band alumni friends all agree the band is sucking it up. Uniformly, they are all stunned at how passive the group is.
Re: ATTN: People who run bandHow about the section east of the band. There were maybe 15 people there all game. We need that section full and going nuts all game.

Re: ATTN: People who run band
Right. Is there not student demand or why is 1/3 of the stands next to the band empty?
Re: ATTN: People who run bandThere are things that the band could do better, no doubt. But your criticism is misplaced and your memory is selective. The band is told when they play, and tonight I made notes. EVERY SINGLE TIMEOUT except 1 timeout the band was not playing first. Any momentum killing was not done by the band.
All time outs in the first half were the regular tv timeouts, no "hot" TOs. 1st TO - 1st Sterling Moore was introduced, then the Poms did a performance to Jingle Bell Rock. Band played Beat It, but only after all the life had already been sucked from the arena. 2nd TO - Great moments in SMU history on video board. Again, life already gone when band played All About that Bass. 3rd TO -- Shooting game on the court (at least he made all 3 shots), then they did an ad for Dave and Busters. Only then did they play Birdland. Not an awesome selection, admittedly, but it wasn't terrible, and if the crowd was dead already, it wasn't the band's fault. 4th TO -- Biggest fan of the game promotion on the video board, followed by a Papa John's promotion. The band's selection, Hall of the Mountain King, was the worst of the night, and I would prefer them not doning it again, but again, the prior promos were the problem, not the band. Crowd was kind of off and on, anyway, no big momemtum to sustain or kill, IMO. 2nd half 1st TO -- This was the only regular TO of the night where the band was allowed to play first. They did the GO Chant. Many students joined in. Would be better if more people did the spirit stuff. Afterwards, Black Betty was piped in. It's not exactly a participatory song, just bumper music. 2nd TO -- What A Shot promo on the video board for 2 minutes. Band then played a jock jam staple, that I have personally heard many other bands play at tourney games to good effect (especially Va Tech a few years ago -- crowd went wild). Not the band's fault that this crowd doesn't react. 3rd TO -- Fan of the game photo and t shirt toss. Band then played Crazy Train. SMU called a time out after an UCSB run. Band was given the green light and should have played a spirit song. They played Blues Brothers. This is probably their biggest mistake of the night, but in fairness, it was UCSB's momentum they were killing, not our own. But after Band was finished, video board did dance cam to "Everybody Dance Now," not an inspired selection. SMU called another TO. Band played Pony Battle and there were lots of students singing along -- could be heard above the band. Under 4 TO -- Any momentum was killed by announcing What a Shot promo results. Band played a modern song the name of which I don't know, but students were dancing. Then Gary Glitter "Hey" song was piped in. Honestly, students seemed to respond more to the band song than "Hey." UCSB TO -- This would have been the perfect time to do 7NA, but instead, it was random bumper music. Band did not play, and this was the biggest dud of the night, given situation. Next TO before an SMU free throw, they did play 7 NA, but it was poor situational awareness, since crowd had to stop to be quite for free throw. Remaining TOs were mainly spirit songs or piped in music, and generally were fine.
Re: ATTN: People who run bandRight. From what I understand there are several people/groups trying to run the game presentation and they are constantly stepping on each other. We need one person who knows what they are doing to control everything. Maybe pay the guy who was here last year to come back. Cincy stole him away.

Re: ATTN: People who run bandWhat's the band's capacity to learn songs? They need to change the music up more and fire whoever makes the selections.
