Re: Syracuse just got hammered
Post season ban is in the self imposed. All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
Re: Syracuse just got hammeredAnd had they not self imposed it probably would have been multi year
Re: Syracuse just got hammeredWould be funny to see the NCAA say "because we know your cheating got you into the ACC you forfeit all ACC revenue for the next three years."
Re: Syracuse just got hammeredThat's crazy - think about NC - Chapel Hill
Re: Syracuse just got hammeredCount me in the column of folks that think this can be viewed as being light compared with the potential punishment. No further postseason bans past this season (which they specifically pointed out as having been announced after the punishment phase had already been completed, ergo not an impact on the resulting penalties), and even thought they are being punished for actions going back to 2001 including the 2003 season, they don't lose that 2003 National Championship. Not sure how the math works on that one...but I'll take their word for it.
As for UNC, I would hope this forebodes well that they intend to hammer UNC. Deep down, I hope that happens because their acts are much more contrary to the entire purpose of college and amateur athletics than either SU here or our famous example of paying players. Sadly, I would not be shocked at all if they announced some lighter sentence in the middle of the summer that basically thanks UNC for being so great.
Re: Syracuse just got hammeredSpeaking of my friends at UNC, you should check out Bloomberg's review of the whistleblower book:
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/ ... ege-sports And meanwhile, the former director of UNC's graduate school admissions has come forward about being directly ordered to admit wholly unqualified athletes in wholly irregular ways: http://www.newsobserver.com/news/local/ ... 45640.html Tidbits from the Bloomberg review: "[T]he well-intentioned attempt to build a Department of African and Afro-American Studies devolved into a patronizing and destructive program that encouraged mostly black football and basketball stars to enroll in rubber-stamp courses of virtually no intellectual value." "How a conspiracy of silence helped insulate the scam. In some instances the classes were real, but the athletes nominally enrolled in them rarely showed up. The authors quote Adam Seipp, now an historian at Texas A&M, who majored in what was known as the AfAm department: 'It was commonly understood in these classes that the athletes were not being made to do the work the rest of us were doing,' Seipp recalled. The 'running joke' whenever regular students encountered the ballplayers was, '"So did you guys do the [AfAm] paper?" And everybody would laugh. And we all knew what was going on. It was not like it was under the table.' "How Willingham witnessed the undisguised ghostwriting of papers for athletes, as well as rampant plagiarism. Ballplayers routinely copied their supposedly original work directly from library or Internet sources—except when mentor/tutors did the copying for them."
Re: Syracuse just got hammeredThat's pretty light, I'd say. Only difficult task is 2 on road recruiters
Re: Syracuse just got hammeredGiving back a few million in NCAA tourney revenue will not be fun.
Re: Syracuse just got hammered
The lose of scholly's is big.
Re: Syracuse just got hammeredThe scholarship limitations on through 2019 are the worst part of the penalties because that will make them less competitive and less desirable to recruits for some time. Of course, sometimes a traditional national powerhouse can overcome them-somewhat and remain competitive- but they almost always hurt for a pretty substantial period. Syracuse because of low scholarship numbers also can not afford to sign any recruits that are subject to the new mandatory academic redshirt rule for 3 years so their admission standards have effectively gone up substantially

Re: Syracuse just got hammeredwhat does the ncaa have against private methodist schools?
miami did far worse and got nothing. again not methodist. just sayin.
Re: Syracuse just got hammeredI feel for all the innocent players, fans, alumni, students etc. Ya know?
Just sayin' Party at The Wopper!
Re: Syracuse just got hammered
Right
Re: Syracuse just got hammered
Very little will happen to UNC beyond the NCAA's face-saving slap on the wrist. As for Syracuse, good. Always hated Syracuse. "What kind of weirdo school are they running over there in Fort Worth?"
