To hear the MANY media members tell the story of his continued transgressions as recent as 2011 makes me wonder how anyone can defend the guy. People deserve a second chance, but how many?

Well, you're the one who asked us to let you tell us that he has repented. And to be fair, you did hear him speak once in a public forum, so I guess that settles any issues as far as whether he might end up reverting to decades of bad behavior that he has repeatedly thought he could quietly get away with.

Talked about this on the Ticket during the Musers show this morning. Junior was floored that anyone would hire him again.

Sanctimonious twit.
I'd love to hear secretly-recorded audio of Junior on HIS worst day.
That goes from Rhynes and Corby too.

Whatever Junior, Rhynes, Corby, or even Greggo have done wrong in their lives, I doubt that any of it could compare to what Dave Bliss did.

Junior may be right, I don't know, but it's hard to listen to him. I know he can't help it, but his voice! He sounds like a fifth grade boy, and when he gets stirred, it really gets shrill. Sanctimony and self-righteousness in a shrill voice doesn't cut it.

I know Bliss from SMU encounters and here in B/CS area from private schools that played Allen Academy where he was coach/AD. There is a mixed bag of reaction regarding him among coaches. One of those coaches was a staff member at the church I pastor. He noted that there was a tension regarding church/Christian things while playing Allen Academy, and Bliss' sole focus was performance on the floor (as it should be, seeing that AA is not affiliated with any church, or religious decree). Since the team (home school) that played AA was Christ-centered, pregame prayer (just the players on the HS team prior to game) was challenged by Bliss with a "let's get going" comment. Brad's team cruised past AA by 20 points on AA's home court. Not a definitive call on Coach Bliss' faith, but an interesting observation from our student pastor Brad, who did not know about the Baylor/UNM/SMU history.

As far as his faith in Christ, that is solely between him and Him. I did get a chance to talk with Coach Bliss for a good bit after one of the tournaments that AA was in, and I get the feeling (that only) that he is more at peace with his life, and someone that would give his left leg to get another chance at the areas that he has failed in . Atonement is a very real part of the redemption process, both in outward actions and inward reflection. For many of us, being a Christ-follower is trying to make NEW mistakes, in stead of repeating old ones. Bliss remembered his SMU days fondly, and said he sometimes wished he had never left there. In light of what followed, I guess I could agree.

Since I am in need of as much or more grace from God for my sin than Dave Bliss is, I guess my thought concerning him is I wish him well.

Why isn't Bliss in the SMU Athletics Hall Of Fame?

All of the bad stuff he did was after he was here.

Actually, now that I think about it, that would be kind of bad.

Nevermind.

He cheated at SMU too (but nothing near as bad as what he did in the Baylor/Dennehy scandal) but the NCAA decided not to do anything about it because we had just received the death penalty in football and the NCAA decided that was punishment enough.

Seem to recall Dave Bliss liking to chew on a towel during games, kind of like Jerry Tarkanian. I absolutely remember he won big everywhere he coached. I actually met him once at a Greenville Ave establishment and he was very friendly and approachable. The Baylor thing was disappointing but the guy didn't kill anybody. Wish him well.

I hope Dave Bliss has repented and is truly remorseful, as ponyboy alluded to. but even so, he should never be in a position of coaching young men again.

ponyboy- would you let your son go play for Dave Bliss now?
