Big 12 may fine schools if fans storm court

Postby LA_Mustang » Thu May 28, 2015 1:30 pm

I know we've debated this in the past - whether fans should storm the court against certain opponents. I wonder if other conferences will follow Big 12's lead?

SEC already does so, doesn't it?

The SEC does have a rule, but the fine for the first violation is only $5000.

They are talking about raising the fine significantly.

It's about time. All of the court storming is just ridiculous these days.

How many court stormings did the Big 12 have last season?

This makes zero sense to me. Some people just like to control others.

Either the Big 12 or the SEC is also going to "tone down" chants to a rated PG level.

Let's get a group to go to every TCU home game and storm the court, regardless of the result.

I don't have a problem with court storming as long as adequate security measures are in place. There was a scary moment last year at the K-State/Kansas game when KSU's coach basically had to shield Bill Self from unruly students rushing the floor. You've gotta have the yellow jacket security guys surrounding the visiting team and making sure they can exit the floor without incident.

Our yellow jackets cannot keep young kids from piling into 104 in Ford. I would hate to think we have to rely on them to keep people off the field.

So a coach gets a stupid kid in his face for five seconds - big deal. Lets suck the fun out of the sport? The NBA is not what we want.

This is patently unfair to smaller schools. For the Big 12 and the SEC it's simply another line on the athletic budget.
"Let's see here….one million for court storming or two?"
Smaller schools will have to have bake sales to afford them.

The big 12 had a reporter break his leg this season due to a court storming. I'm sure this is playing into their decision.

Hearing the Arizona coach talk about the storming last night was interesting in Colorado. He pretty much said that his center, who is 7'2 and about 260 would haul off and slug someone if he felt threatened. One of these days that is going to happen.
