We have the best coach / developer so we can do much more with top 150 than most can. Drake made 16 a few years ago, see Butler, etc.

I think you're implying we don't have the internal infrastructure either as a program or fan base to handle all that comes w/a top 15 recruitment? If so, agreed

How do we get there? Do we want to get there? How long does it take to get there?

A stealthy, seasoned, infrastructure is needed. We're too 'Circle of Champions' and I mean that w/reverence and the utmost respect to those individuals and even [deleted] Orsini who was clearly integral.

Essentially, we hired an ancient legend, primarily an NBA guy. He's a damn genius, so he surrounds himself w/his coaching tree and they navigate his hires. So, we end up w/slick on slick cats that roll in ways that SMU has barely dreamed of in 30 years. Meanwhile, Larry is being Larry, coaching our kids up, being a helluva ambassador, all in between his weekly NBA talk show circuit, where he drops the brand a few times.

It's all great ROI, other than the fact that it's an NBA model. Kids don't pass, we spend like a drunken sailor and there is a ton of delegation. So, guys like Ulric and JHo end up running the talent acquisition almost unmonitored. These are skilled guys that leverage connections and gain trust, but no one will say they aren't brash. SMU as #SnapBackU , lol! Are you kidding me? Too funny.. How about their shoe game via Instagram, during the July open period, always as they boarded or were in a private jet. Love it, but whoa...You have to ease into the deep end, not roll out in a buggati making it rain, all on camera. Simply, we don't have the type of booster or industry support to launder, over and over, until there is nothing there. You need that support to back up SnapBack U bravado. That's why you recruit in the #35-#150 range. Top 35 might just require more than we can bite off and keep the program healthy.

A) this post finally gives me insight into how the Caliparis and Selfs of the world are pulling off what they are doing, so thank you. B) given that only the top 50-55 college players are drafted by the NBA every year (+ a few Euros), and given that there is generally a pretty high correlation between players' college ranking and their previous high school ranking (I.e., most draft picks were top-ranked high school players), I don't understand how you can make the assertion that SMU can field a final four caliber team with 50-150 players when you say they need 3 nba-quality players

And those kids are more likely to stay 4 years, not leave early for the draft. Experience can make a huge difference in the tourney. That's why when those Cinderella stories happen in march, they are usually by an upperclassman team.
