Re: Huge official visit - 5-star Mustapha Heron
From the interview with his father it sounds like the new coach at St. John's (the assistant who got him to commit to Pitt), is the only reason St. John's is in the mix. Not sure the personal connection is as strong after a) the coach switching schools and b) St. Johns is a pretty big step down in exposure compared to the ACC and really even the AAC.
Re: Huge official visit - 5-star Mustapha Heron
i have a dumb question. Is Hobbie pronounced like "hobby" or does it rhyme with "Moby"? Derail the Frogs!

like hobby. Dallas Mavericks - 2011 NBA CHAMPIONS!
Long live the Circle of Champions!
Re: Huge official visit - 5-star Mustapha HeronI'm not sure who doubted Hobbies ability to get us in, it's closing that's a beast. We're up against a rejuvenated ST Johns under Mullin and a Terp program that's looking elite for awhile.
Re: Huge official visit - 5-star Mustapha Heron
His closing skills will be put to the test over the next few months - we are being considered by 6 of the rivals top 20 right now, though not sure if we are the favorite for any of them
Re: Huge official visit - 5-star Mustapha Heron
This will be interesting to see how it plays out.
Re: Huge official visit - 5-star Mustapha Heron
We have not closed on him yet. I hope Hobbie can close. Go get'em coach. "We will play man to man and we will pick you up at the airport." - Larry Brown

Re: Huge official visit - 5-star Mustapha HeronGotta believe LB and KT are the closers.
SMU-12 NCAA appearances, 1 Final Four
2014-15 & 2016-17 AAC Men's Basketball Champs
Re: Huge official visit - 5-star Mustapha Heron
I wouldn't think KT touches this, other than peripherally. Hobbie's Dad is a legend, as is Hobbie as a specialist shooting coach in NYC/NJ. Remember, this guy got us a Top 100 kid coming out in Blaise Mbagorga(sp?) under Doh, in his first year on the job, beating Vandy and a few other 'better' programs at the time. I don't doubt Hobbie, his connects, or ability to get us in. I question whether concentrating on the NE is smart, especially w/the competition off the charts. Maryland is a top 5 program right now and recruiting hard, St Johns under Mullen feels dangerous etc. There have been many years recently where those historically good programs have been dormant recruiting, just not now. I would have preferred a west coast emphasis, but no worries should we land one or two from the NE. We're just up against local powers in most of these recruitments.
Re: Huge official visit - 5-star Mustapha HeronI think that may have a lot to do with LB having a NE basketball mentality. Tough nosed grinders being his favorite type of player.
Re: Huge official visit - 5-star Mustapha HeronI get it, but I'd like to see Larry make more program sustainable decisions. We have a tough road in the NE, the west is so much easier, just have to find the right types of kids.
Re: Huge official visit - 5-star Mustapha HeronHoop get off your [deleted] and start recruiting the east coast kids
Re: Huge official visit - 5-star Mustapha Heron
I might could do the southeast, but I'll need 'resources'
