Toreros are dancin'

Postby Charleston Pony » Tue Mar 11, 2003 8:53 am

Anybody notice that San Diego beat Gonzaga for the WCC bid to the NCAA Tourney last night? Former Mustang Larry Delzel's son scored 14 pts, one of 4 Toreros in double figures.

Upsets do happen in these tourneys. Go Ponies. While Tulsa may be the favorite, this WAC Tourney is wide open!

Sweet - we have a win over an NCAA team.

Hopefully we'll get another - in the first round of the Dance.

San Diego was impressive at Moody. Jason Keep was a monster inside. They controlled most of the game in Dallas before the Q pulled SMU through. The homecourt is just so big, did you notice that San Diego was the host of the tourney so it had a huge advantage in beating Gonzaga.

Another key for San Diego was that Gonzaga was missing one of their best players, and the Torreros had Nick Lewis back. Lewis is a 6'10 Freshman who backs up Keep, he was injured earlier in the year and didnt play against us. He was averaging about 10 points a game off the bench.

I think Lewis is their leading scorer, but I've read a couple of articles that suggest Keep actually has an NBA future. What a house that guy is.
