Team awards presented at men's basketball banquet
Ross awarded MVP, Mr. Hustle and Best Defensive Player honors

DALLAS (SMU) -- Team awards were presented at SMU's annual men's basketball banquet held Monday night, April 28, at Bob's Steak & Chophouse.

Senior Quinton Ross, the 2002-03 WAC Player of the Year, was named team MVP, Mr. Hustle and Best Defender, while sophomore Eric Castro took home the Bobby James Academic Award and best field goal percentage honors for the second straight year. Castro also claimed Most Improved Player honors.

Patrick Simpson was the top rebounder and Bryan Hopkins, the 2002-03 WAC Freshman of the Year, earned Most Valuable Newcomer accolades. Kris Lowe won best free throw percentage and Sixth Man awards and Justin Isham recorded the most charges drawn.

Senior manager Jon Allmon was honored with the inaugural Coaches Award, and Coach Mike Dement also announced that the SMU team room will be renamed in honor of SMU benefactor Vic Salvino.

Best Free Throw Percentage - Kris Lowe
Sixth Man Award - Kris Lowe
Best Rebounder - Patrick Simpson
Best Field Goal Percentage - Eric Castro
Bobby James Academic Award - Eric Castro
Most Improved - Eric Castro
Most Charges Drawn - Justin Isham
Most Valuable Newcomer - Bryan Hopkins
Best Defender - Quinton Ross
Mr. Hustle - Quinton Ross
Most Valuable Player - Quinton Ross
