AAC 2017 MBB Tournament

Postby Dukie » Mon Feb 01, 2016 3:41 pm

Anybody know when the conference has typically announced the sites? Surely the tournament is due to come to Texas, right? The Big XII-IV+II will be in Kansas City this year and the next few years.

2017 is in Orlando. They got it two years in a row, which seems very odd to me.

It should always be in Orlando. Accommodations, pro arena, theme park central for kids, solid weather

It would be nice if we could get it in Dallas or New Orleans after the Orlando deal ends.

Cincinnati is in the middle. Come on over to the Queen city. Skyline chili for everyone.

I'm sure the attendance in Orlando will be pretty bad. Not many casual sports fans reside in Florida. Only hope is for good travel from fan bases...and for half the conference, we know that won't happen

Especially good for your family! (Kidding. Mostly.)

It's got to come to Texas sometime. Dallas is a no-brainer in that you actually have three fan bases (counting Tulsa and UH) that may travel and actually create something of a conference tourney atmosphere.

I wouldn't hate a permanent Orlando tourney, but only after it's made the full rounds. UConn and Memphis each got a home tourney. Others should, too.

New Orleans is a great city for tourism, but where would you hold the tournament? Keep in mind that Tulane has the conferences smallest gym, even after they renovated, I'm pretty sure capacity is still under 5,000. For the early rounds of the tournament you will need seating amd parking for 8 teams fanbases (at least 1,000 tickets per schools), and practice facilities for 10. I really dont see New Orleans being able to handle that. In Dallas the tournament wouldnt be played at Moody, Moody and Crum would be the practice facility, and American Airlines would be the game venue.
