Any news on the search for a new women's HC?

Postby CA Mustang » Wed Apr 06, 2016 1:52 pm

It has been over a month since the change was announced, but has the AD conducted any interviews? Will SMU target a P5 assistant? Or a HC from another G6 (or smaller) school? I saw the HC at Nebraska stepped down this week, so the coaching carousel on the women's side is spinning.

SMU doesn't do coaching search updates. We won't know a darn thing until the pressed.

I was just wondering about this yesterday. I assume we had some people at the women's final four?

True, we have to make do with rumors.

A safe assumption. I'm interested to see in which direction the school wants to go and who they interview will answer that question.

Do we have any info on our search for next year's in-game DJ?

Hopefully we sent someone down to SXSW to check out the up and coming talent.

I mentioned Deneen Parker (SMU asst) and Kelly Bond-White (Texas A&M asst) a month ago, and I have heard through unofficial channels that SMU approached Kellie Jolly Harper, the head coach at Missouri State. I dont know if Harper has much interest in us, but she has an interesting resume. Three national titles as a player at Tennessee, she's only 38, but has been a head coach 12 years at Western Carolina, NC State, and Missouri State. She's had her ups and downs, but took all 3 to the NCAA tournament once. This year Mizzou St was 24-9, finished second in the MVC, and lost to Texas A&M in the first round of the NCAA tourney. Her overall record is 224-171. Not sure if she is the best candidate, but she's the only one i've heard of. nothing to do but wait and see.

Whoever SMU hires, it should have been done 2-3 weeks ago. Signing day is in a week, and we have 5 open scholarships.

At least they are looking at experienced HC. That's good to hear..

That's not a surprise. Losing a recruiting class if you get the RIGHT coach isn't the worth thing that could happen, but will they hire the RIGHT coach?

Thanks for the update.
