Harry Froling Signs With Mustangs
Third Mustang To Sign NLI For 2016-17 Season

May 2, 2016

DALLAS (SMU) -- Harry Froling has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Mustangs beginning with the 2016-17 season, SMU Head Coach Larry Brown announced today. He joins Tom Wilson and Dashawn McDowell in this year’s signing class.

Froling is a 6-11 forward at the Australian Institute of Sport. He was a teammate with Wilson on the Australian Junior National Team that earned the silver medal at the 2014 U17 World Championship. Froling, a four-star signee by Rivals and Scout, played the 2015-16 season with the Townsville Crocodiles in the National Basketball League. He then was invited to play for the World Team as one of the top 12 international players at the 2016 Nike Hoop Summit in Portland, Oregon. The Nike Hoop Summit features some of the best 19-years-old and younger players from around the world. Its Team USA alumni include Kevin Durant, Kevin Garnett, Rudy Gay, Kyrie Irving, Kevin Love, Derrick Rose and John Wall while its international alumni from the World Team include Dirk Nowitzki, Tony Parker, Nicolas Batum, Andrew Wiggins and Serge Ibaka.

SMU finished the 2015-16 season 25-5 overall with a 16-1 record at Moody Coliseum. The Mustangs finished second in the American Athletic Conference at 13-5. SMU was No. 24 in the final AP Top 25 after reaching as high as No. 8 this season. The final poll was the 17th straight week in the AP Top 25 after receiving votes in the first two polls. SMU led The American in 8 of 21 statistical rankings and ranked in the top 10 of 7 NCAA stat categories. Nic Moore was named The American Player of the Year for the second straight season. He was named All-AAC First Team for the third straight season, earning a unanimous selection for the second straight year. Markus Kennedy was honored as the AAC Sixth Man of the Year for the second consecutive campaign. Shake Milton was a unanimous pick for the AAC All-Rookie team. Nic Moore was also named All-District First Team by the NABC and UWBWA. Ben Moore was named to the NABC All-District Second Team.

Dashawn McDowell (G, 6-5, 185) was a guard for Coach Walter Brewer at Southeast High School in Oklahoma City. As a senior, he was named First-Team All-State by the Oklahoma Coaches Association. As a junior, McDowell averaged 29.0 points as a junior and was named the 2015 All-City Conference Player of the Year. He played AAU for Urban DFW.

Tom Wilson (G, 6-5, 180) was a guard for Coach Adam Caporn at the Australian Institute of Sport. He was the captain of the U17 and U19 Australian National teams. He spent the 2015-16 season with the Melbourne United in Australia’s National Basketball League. In 2014, Wilson helped the Australian National Team to a silver medal at the U17 World Championship, averaging 12.3 points and 6.6 rebounds. In the gold medal game against the USA (lost 99-92), he had 23 points, six rebounds and seven assists.
