We're in on a lot of kids, probably close to 40 offers, just not sure how many are commitable. Not as many profile kids, but still 3 or 4 in top 100 or so. If we hit on some combo of the kids we really want, we're more than fine.

That seems a little underwhelming...

Highly recruited players, especially 5 star players, won't come until we start putting people in the NBA.

We start doing that, we will get more looks.

Keith screwed us with that. We made a 5 star player end up transferring to UNT.

Underwhelming seems harsh. We may not get a top 100 kid, but we'll get high 3 stars, possibly a 4 star or two. Ultimately, that becomes about evaluation, more than perceived star rankings. IF the staff thinks they can play and develop quickly, thats the only litmus. Sure, I want to sprinkle in sure things, but so does everyone

I guess that's true. We have been doing that the last few years anyways.

Absolutely. I remember back when hoopmanx said he will take a roster of 50-150 ranked national players over going for the 5-stars every year. If you look at our roster we have several 50-150 guys - Ben Moore, Gu, Sterling, Froling - with a couple highly ranked guys in Shake and Semi. Plus, Jarrey wouldve been a top 150 playerif not for his injury. I would like to have a little more size but I really like this team.

If you have a roster filled with guys in the 50-150 range you are a perennial tournament team (SMU was basically a tournament team the last 3 years), then when you get a class with a few of those top guys you have a chance to do something special as those guys become the little bit of sizzle to make a good team a great team.

Unless you are Kentucky and can restock your one and dones every year. But having solid players for 4 years gives you the ability to compete and build. If you're a tourney team every year, then the one and dones might look at you with the eye to maybe getting a ring in their one year. UNC and Duke generally don't have 5 one and dones, they may have one each year. That puts them into the discussion for a National Championship.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

For SMU, I don't think of one and dones. That was for the Jerrence/Ulric era. I think about how many kids in my 8 man rotation have a chance to really make money playing pro, here and overseas. In a perfect world, I think 3 NBA types gets you in the Final 4, national championship, discussion. We're pretty close to that this year, but we're also thin in some areas and have experience issues.

I agree on one and dones. I also agree about sticking to the 50-150. My concern is whether or not we are able to stay in that range.

I believe Duke had 3 one and dones the year they won the national championship. I believe they have 2 or 3 one and dones in their incoming freshman class this year.

If SMU can stay in that 50-150 range the program will be in good shape. The 2017 class will probably tell a lot regarding what Coach Jank and staff can do.
