BHop the turnover machine??

Postby PonySnob » Sun Nov 23, 2003 11:11 am

Why is that BHop seems to have a large number of turnovers in every game? It is certainly evident that his Lincoln team was carried by Chris Bosh.

It may be that he is still not as explosive with his quickness as he was at Lincoln, and he tries to turn it on by taking chances that are now leading to turnovers when in the past he succeeded in scoring or dishing.

It also might be that he is just forcing it to much trying to make things happen - trying to live up to his hype. In watching him at practice and in the exhibition games he appears to have some jets on defense and when he darts into the lane.

Do any of you have any other suggestions? As Dement has said - even playing injured last year he won WAC accolades.

It's probably a combination of phsyical and mental....like RH said, forcing the passes. He has been a TO machine since he's been here. He was much more quick and leaped out of the gym in HS but these injuries seem to be effecting him somehow. I am not a big fan of his dribbling style which seems easy to pick off on the crossover...he comes very close to palming the ball a lot.

Brilliant revelation two years later.

On most nights it was Hop that carried Lincoln. On the defensive end Lincoln’s guards were so quick that schools usually couldn’t get the ball over mid court, and if they did Bosh was sitting in middle of the lane waiting. In most games they had called off the dogs by half. I believe Cedar Hill (ranked #1 in 5A at the time) was only school to get within 10 points of Lincoln that year. They had everything, a all-world PG that made the engine run, three blazing quick guards that could hit the three or take it to the hole, and a 7 foot NBA lottery pick in the middle...but make no mistake, it was Hop's team.

It really was Hops team at Lincoln. He just isn't the same physically right now. Must be chronic injuries and it must be frustrating for him. But any talk of playing Aitkenhead instead is just ridiculous. He is a nice walk on, but lets get real. Hopkins will get hot against a good team pretty soon and when he does, SMU will have its first real good win in a long time. Its not like he is losing games for us now either. Even with turnovers the guys must be on the floor for SMU to be any good.
