Did not realize until today that Dement's

Postby HighfalutinHorse » Sun Nov 30, 2003 1:19 pm

son was on the team. His BIO, ie: "had a board vs. UTEP, took a shot against tcu, played 3 minutes vs. EA Sports" begs the question, why is he on the team? :hmm:

He has been a practice player since he got here. Free ride (education) from Daddy.

I believe his education would have been paid for anyway. He seems to be a good kid and has worked hard so get off his case.

...nobody's "on his case", just want to know why he is on the team...better question, why so defensive? Seems like a waste of a 'ship to me, but, "he's a good kid, who trys hard" THAT'S WHAT'S IMPORTANT, btw, is he Desmond Jones' roomate...man, we have lowered the bar around here....sorry to ask, got to go study now... :whistling:

Most of the time when a coach's kid plays for the same school the father coaches, the player comes as a walk on and does not use a 'ship. Do not know if this is the case, but it usually is. That was the case with Coach Allen and Eddie Sutton.

This allows "dad" to buy "son" a car without a coach buying a car for a player.

of course Dement Jr. is not on a basketball scholarship. Pretty sure that as the kid of an SMU employee, he gets free tuition anyway, just like a secretaries kid would.

I think that's the case; i.e., as the son of an employess, Dement has tuition paid as part of Dad's benefits package. As for why he's on the team, you need numbers to run quality practices and since you always have injuries to deal with, it's good to have more than just your scholarship guys. Even CP considered (briefly) walking on in bball after playing pick up ball with several guys on the team during my years at SMU and realizing I could have contributed (practice wise). When Dement gets his 30 seconds of mop up time in a meaningless game situation, that's his payment for a lot of hard work.

Yeah, we're using a 'ship on Dement. Give it a rest, will you? Employees of SMU are allowed to have their children attend SMU tuition free.

HH-why don't you and your fellow aliases spend a little time educating yourself about the topic you are yapping about before bothering us with one of your pointless arguments.

Right on.. Mike gets free tuition but still has to pay housing out of pocket.

Mike was a really good friend while I was at SMU. Don't hate on the coache's son just cuz the coach is disappointing.
