SMU recruit Derrick Roberts of Nimitz HS is averaging 26 pts in his first five games (he was averaging 31 before only scoring 9 in their latest game). I hope we stay on this kid because other schools are going to continue calling.

LA, unlike football recruits, I dont think we need to lose any sleep over Roberts. He signed his Letter of Intent already.

That's right. We signed him during the early period....good. I was think we had to wait until Feb.
I really think this young man was a steal.

I've not seen him. Who would you compare him to?

well that's good but is Killen just a playmaker because I think he's scored about 14 points combined in the three boxscores I've seen.

Stallion, I can't tell you for sure but I am under the impression, from what I have been told, that this kid is indeed a playmaker. He can play either guard and looks to pass before looking for a pass. We haven't had anyone like this in a long time.

HF, I saw him play once last year and athletically, he is very similar to Isham. He can literally jump out of the gym. Offensively, he is a little more polished than Isham was during HS. He has a nice jump shot and can dish the ball as well...."experts" consider him a combo guard. He will be a good one.

Stallion, I havent seen Killen play but everything I have read indicats he is a pass first type of player. I plan to catch a Martin game soon and I will report what I see.

Roberts continues to put up big numbers. He has kept his average around 30 pts/game, including a 39 point game against Cypress Springs. I’m not sure why but he didn’t play in the last two games of a tournament this last weekend. Anyone in the Houston area know why?

After missing the last two games Roberts returned to score 23 in a 77-68 win over Klein Forest last night. At least we know it wasn’t a serious injury that kept him out.
