Bob Knight on the Ticket

Postby leadpony » Thu Dec 04, 2003 2:39 pm

Was just coming back from a late lunch and I caught Bobby Knight on the Ticket. He said that in all of his years of coaching, the fans behind the Texas Tech bench against SMU were the worst.

He said that he could not beleive the things that these people were saying to him and his players. And that he went and told a police officer that he was about to go into the stands and put the kid right into the cops lap.

He went on to say that he was even thinking of writing a letter to Turner about it, but he didn't think that Turner would care enough.

There was more said, but it was all pretty negative.

I like to see some spunk from a SMU croud, but if it is the worst that BOB KNIGHT has ever heard, I am sure that it was more than tasteless.

I would love to think that a home and home with TTech is a great thing for the ponies. I hope some idiots haven't ruined it for the rest of us.

If it pissed him off that bad and say it on The Ticket, it must have been very tasteless. I am still not sure why they have the seating that way. I did see him at the game talk to the cops and point in that direction.

Actually he did not bring it up.

He said that the team was much improved and that they found a way to make plays.

The hosts (Bob and Dan)said that they were there and wanted to know why he would leave the team and go talk to a cop.

To which Knight replied he would be happy to tell them.......

It sounded like it may have been a pre-determined topic.

But regardless I have to think it was something racially motivated for the most heckled person in America to say that it was the most tastless thing that he has ever heard.

It was one of the only lively crowds I have witnessed at SMU - they do not need to do anything to keep those students from being there - they need to do some things to put more of them there. Knight is a whiner, and I am not sure why everyone alsways acts so scared of the guy - he has perfected the scary look - but he is all bark.

If he was distracted our fans did their job. You don't see anyone else making life easy on the visitors.

Guys I'll be happy to tell you what the "SORE LOSER" heard from us(the students).

"Bobby Sucks!"

"Bobby...Bobby...Bobby"

"Hey Bobby You're losing!"

That's about the worst thing that anyone said. I was standing right next to the guys that were almost kicked out. There wasn't anything tasteless...it was all in good fun. How could you believe a guy that threw the biggest hissy fit ever in the history of college basketball? He was a sore loser and that's all. Enough said.

racially motivated? No reason whatsover to assume that. Although I do think that will be the end of the series if Knight is so perturbed. I like him at times when he derides stupid reporters, but he is so arrogant and thinks he is gods gift to basketball. Bob and Dan are complete hacks and I'm sure they brought it up to rail yet again on SMU.

This guys a cagey ol dog - he will whine about it to Turner, who will then promise him it will be better, and then next time you will see that whole area roped off for Techies with their gay guns up b.s., and he won't have to put up with our students - part of the hoe field advantage goes away.

We should promise nothing - its not that hard to get good regional opponents in Dallas.

Fair enough... I am glad to see that some students actually showed up for a game - nice to see. I hope BK has a losing season :)

Why would you think it was racial...I have never heard anything close to that in all my years at SMU sporting events.

I have seats literally right above the student section. My seat is on the 2nd row so I am pretty much on top of the students. All I heard was a consistent "Bobby Sucks" In fact, I commented to several of the people near me that it was actually rather tame and a bit unoriginal. But we did not even hear any foul language, much less "the worst crowd I have ever heard in my eons of basketball coaching." I have personally heard much, much worse when I was a student in that very section. Much, much worse.

And I have words for anyone who feels the students shouldn't be where they are sitting now. It's not supposed to be hospitable for opposing teams. Granted, that doesn't mean we need to dog cuss someone. But, I did not hear much of that going on and an officer was right behind the Tech bench for much of the 2nd half. If anyone had said anything remotely foul, he would have intervened. I'll be sure to ask the officer in question when I see him next.

It warms my heart to think Bobby got rattled in Moody. Keep it up, students.

Listen, I am not saying that we should be patting the other team on the back and helping them out. I am saying that it is strange for the most heckled person in America to say that the worst that he has ever heard is at SMU.

I love the fact that SMU is getting people rattled in Moody. I wish that it were a feared place to play.

The only reason I thought that it may be over the line and racially motivated is because he said that some of it was directed at the players. And he was concerned enough about it to go and tell a police officer. Trust me I have been right in the middle of serious heckling, but never bad enough to call the police (or maybe only once)

Its a releif to hear it was a different situation then I thought. Lets keep it up against Wake.

Well, you know, if you're going to have a big talking team and come in with police escort, get used to being heckled.

Besides, I really don't feel that a man who has strangled students and thrown things and basically has a temper like his can call other's classless.

Ed P makes an important point about originality. Could we teach the students a new heckle? How many times and different ways can you tell someone they suck, before it gets old? You suck, your mother sucks, your schol sucks, your town sucks, sucksucksucksucksuck. Come on guys, think up something new! A little creativity here goes a long way.

Nacho was probably right in the middle of it, he was always a rotten kid.
