SI's top scoring transfers

Postby LA_Mustang » Sun Oct 23, 2016 7:47 pm

They project Semi to average only 10 a game.

I love that we are getting no respect.

Might be because he has not played in a while and they might think it will take a bit to get the rust knocked off. But he could come out smokin' too. Can't wait for the season to start.

I don't understand how projecting Semi in double figures is a lack of respect? Since LB has been here, we have been a very balanced scoring team with a hand full of guys in double figures.

Outside of Nic, the last two years we haven't had a player average > 12 ppg.

If we assume Shake picks up the scoring slack left by Nic & averages 14-16 ppg...It is reasonable to think Ben Moore, Sterling, Semi average 10-12 ppg and possibly Ben E and Jarrey right there with 7-9 ppg as well

I think you're assuming we will average 60 points per game. IMO, we will be a 75+ per game average team under Jank. I agree that Shake will be the leading scorer but I think Semi will be right behind him at 15-16 per. Plus, remember he has been sitting and waiting for a LONG time. Semi is ready to show what he is capable of.....

Also, I agree Jarrey is ready. He's capable of 12-15 a night. He'll do whatever is necessary to make us a great squad. Along with Sterling, he's the most versatile player on the team.

I agree that with the possible exception of Shake, I don't see anyone AVERAGING much more than 10-11 points per game as I see a roster full of guys capable of scoring double figures on any given night. We are really tough to beat when we put 4-5 guys in double figures and this year, with a more up tempo pace and shooting more threes, I could see nights where we have 6 guys in double figures. Not sure we've ever done that before. On any given night, Shake, Sterling, Ben, Semi or even some of the newcomers could go off for 20. It's going to be a really fun season.

I am not projecting us to score 60ppg. The quick projections above show mid 60's and don't even take into account the contributions of Froling. McDowell & Wilson.

Could Semi average 14 ppg, sure. All I'm saying is its no disrespect to project him in double figures.

We will have a pretty balanced scoring attack and many are tabbing Ben Moore to make a big leap ( just named pre season 1st team All AAC).

10ppg is not disrepecting him. I think most people on this board are blindly accepting that Semi will be an all-AAC player. I hope so, but I have never seen him play and unless you attend practices you haven't either. He couldn't get off the bench at Duke (understandable considering their roster) so we need to pump the brakes a little.

100% agree.
Just a rough projection:

Shake- 14PPG
Ben Moore- 13 PPG
Sterling Brown- 11PPG
Semi- 11PPG
Froling- 7PPG
Foster- 9 PPG
Gu- 6 PPG
Wilson - 3PPG
McDowell- 2PPG

This would equal 76PPG for the team. Semi averaging between 10-12 would seem to be fairly accurate. Could he average 14-15 sure he could, but I think thats a fair average for a guy who didnt play alot a Duke who has TONS of talent.

Everyone is right though, we aren't getting alot of national respect.

It was fun proving the "experts" wrong as we rolled to 19-0 last year. And it will be fun proving them wrong again this year. The major difference will be (hopefully) that it is the LAST 19 games we remember this time around.

Semi is averaging 20.3 ppg through five games. Short sample size but it's obvious he's this team's best scorer. It appears my 15 ppg guess was too low....

At this point in the season, all 5 starters are averaging double figures with Semi leading the way:

Semi 20.6, Shake 12.0, Sterling 11.2, Ben Moore 10.2 and Jarrey also 10.2 (both with exactly 51 points through 5 games). Love the scoring balance
