Perry Leads SMU Past Prairie View A&M Tuesday Night

Nov. 22, 2016

DALLAS (SMU)— Kiara Perry scored a career-high 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds en route to SMU's, 61-54, victory over the Prairie View A&M Panthers Tuesday night at Moody Coliseum. The Mustangs are now 3-1 overall, while the Panthers fall to 2-2.

Trailing, 45-42, with 4:05 left to play in the fourth quarter, McKenzie Adams nailed the first three pointer of the night for the Mustangs, tying the game for the first time since 8:29 left to play in the second period. Adams followed up with another three-point play the next possession, sinking the lay-up and the free-throw, to give SMU the three point lead and the first lead since the end of the first quarter. After several minutes of back-to-back play, a Prairie View A&M jumper gave the Panthers a two point lead. However, Alicia Froling quickly answered with a fast break layup from a Perry assist, tying the game, 54-54. Mikayla Reese hit a jumper just inside the arc, assisted by Morgan Bolton, to give SMU the lead with exactly one minute remaining in the game. SMU would never trail again. Bolton added a three-pointer and two free throws with less than 30 seconds left in the game to close out the third victory of the season.

Perry and Froling led the offensive charge in the second half, starting in the third quarter. Perry posted eight of SMU's 16 points in the third period, shooting 4-for-5 from the field and cutting the Mustangs deficit to five. Her game-high 19 points and 10 rebounds to secured her second double-double of the season and the fourth of her career. Froling added 12 of her 16 points in the second half. She ended with a season and game-high 16 rebounds. It is the junior's fourth consecutive double-double and the 23rd of her career.

The Mustangs trail the Panthers 28-16 at the half, but fought their way back to improve to 3-1 on the year. SMU is now 2-0 all-time against Prairie View A&M.
